☀️ MEET THE CWC SUMMER INTERNS ☀️

My name is Dylan Braswell, and I am interning at the CWC in the Economic Development
Department. I was raised in Prattsville, NY and I am currently a senior at SUNY Canton
studying Finance. I enjoy many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing.

I am interning at the CWC because I was raised in the watershed and love what the CWC does for the local community and businesses, and I wanted to be a part of that for the summer.

💧 HOW WATER MOVES THROUGH THE WATERSHED 💧
Ever wonder what happens to rainfall after it hits the ground in the Catskills?

This diagram shows how connected our watershed really is.
🌧 Rainfall flows across forests, farms, roads, neighborhoods, and streams.
🌲 Some water is naturally filtered through soil and groundwater.
🏞 Some travels through rivers and reservoirs.
🏡 Along the way, land use, stormwater runoff, septic systems, erosion, and infrastructure can all impact water quality.

That’s why watershed protection takes a community-wide effort.

From septic repair programs and flood mitigation to stream protection and stormwater improvements, the work happening throughout our region helps protect local waterways and the drinking water supply for millions of people.
Because what happens in our mountains doesn’t stay here, it flows downstream to homes, communities, and millions of taps across New York State.

Protecting the Catskills means protecting the future of our water.

Big infrastructure projects may happen behind the scenes — but their impact can shape communities for generations.

The proposed Shokan Wastewater Management Project aims to help protect water quality in the Ashokan Reservoir watershed while supporting long-term community resilience in the Town of Olive.

Project highlights include:
✔ Capacity for 500+ potential hookups
✔ Approximately 70,000+ feet of gravity sewer infrastructure
✔ New wastewater treatment facilities designed to support both Shokan and Boiceville
✔ Protection of local waterways and groundwater resources
✔ Long-term infrastructure investment in the Catskills region

Projects like this help address aging septic challenges, difficult site conditions, flooding concerns, and future environmental protection needs throughout watershed communities.

The Community Wastewater Management Program is administered by the Catskill Watershed Corporation and funded by New York City.

We're excited to be part of the 2026 Pink Street Festival this Sunday!

Stop by the Catskill Watershed Corporation booth for watershed-themed coloring pages, a hands-on activity for kids, and information about the programs that help support communities throughout the Catskills.

This event is especially meaningful to us because the Bovina Center Montessori School is home to CWC's largest septic project to date. We're proud to support a school that serves local children while helping protect water quality for future generations.

Come say hello, learn more about what we do, and enjoy a day of family fun, local vendors, food, and music.
