Chaplin Nature Center The Chaplin Nature Center is a 230-acre nature preserve along the Arkansas River near Arkansas City, Kansas. Trails open year round sunrise to sunset.

Visitor Center with seasonal hours. We do not allow pets or bikes. No hunting, collecting, or fishing.

Plant Bingo was WAY too much fun! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿชด
Everyone went home a winner with a new plant to care for, and we had plenty of snacks, extra prizes, and fun for the kids along the way.
One of the best parts was seeing complete strangers gathered around the tables, laughing, playing bingo, talking plants, and simply enjoying an evening together at our little nature center.๐Ÿฅน
Weโ€™ve been trying some new things around here and this one was definitely a hit!
Itโ€™s safe to say Plant Bingo needs to happen again! Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it such a success. ๐Ÿซถ

Are you seeing monarchs in your yard yet? ๐Ÿฆ‹
These two were spotted mating in our tallgrass prairie this week. We canโ€™t help but think about the incredible journey their offspring will soon make.
Their young will be part of the generation emerging in late summer and fall that makes the long migration south, with some traveling well over 1,000 miles to the mountains of central Mexico. These are the monarchs weโ€™ll most likely be tagging this September as part of ongoing research to better understand and protect their migration.
Pretty incredible to think it all starts right here in the prairie. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿฆ‹

Thanks to everyone who joined us tonight for our astronomy program with guest presenter Grant Tyler and telescope viewing! ๐Ÿ”ญโœจ
The sky opened up and put on a wonderful show for us. We got a close-up look at the craters of the Moon, Venus in its half phase, the Milky Way stretching across the sky, and even caught a few shooting stars!
A special thank you to Grant for sharing his knowledge of the night sky with us and helping make it such a great evening!

Weโ€™ll have refreshments ready, and the visitor center is nice and cool for our astronomy presentation. The clouds are slowly clearing, so fingers crossed weโ€™ll have plenty to see through the scopes tonight! โ›…๏ธโœจ
When you arrive, please check in at the host stand for your assigned table number. Remember, the trails will be closed during the event, so please head straight into the visitor center when you arrive.
