Humane Society of Clark County, Arkadelphia https://linktr.ee/hsccarkansas We are a 501c3 no-kill animal shelter, specializing in cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies. THANK YOU

Founded in 1989, by Don and Dee Ross, along with a group of like-minded citizens of Clark County, organized the Humane Society of Clark County. Each of our loving animals is in search of their forever home. Our goal is to help as many animals as we can. Your continued support allows us to care for the homeless animals in our area. Please stop by and visit, volunteer, foster, or adopt your new furry best friend. Without you, the volunteers of Clark County, none of this would be possible.

AN URGENT WAKE-UP CALL
for Citizens of Clark County
———————————————-
CAUTION!
The images in this message would be disturbing to all viewers if Facebook allowed me to post them.
———————————————-
This post highlights two urgent needs at your Humane Society shelter.
I have graphic pictures that explain, as words cannot, why we are closed to all dog and puppy intake and why we must move faster to build a new shelter. However, Facebook will not let me post the graphic ones.

The dog in the photo is Pesty, a puppy that was born here 406 days ago. Due to overcrowding and decades old dilapidated pens she was one of 5 or 6 dogs that got out of the 3 pens in Run #1 early this morning. Thank God, two of our staff members, Kassie and Bobby and one volunteer Mr. Kim came in earlier than scheduled.
Noticing the dogs out, they investigated and found Pesty in shock after being mauled by another dog that has never done anything like that before.

Pesty is in serious condition tonight at South Arkadelphia Vet Hospital. It may be several days before we know if she will survive.

The average time at the shelter for the dogs involved in the breakout was about 500 days. This happened because of worn out, broken down pens, dogs that are breaking down from kennel stress and crowding 2 to 3 dogs in each pen where they never relax or feel truly safe.

We have been trying for so long to build a new shelter that I, at least, wonder if the community really cares!
Pesty is going to need a good foster home where she can heal. We don’t yet know about the vet bills but there will be vet bills.
I will keep you updated on the situation.

Understanding the Crisis

Every animal we take in has a cost. A cost of care, a cost of vetting and a cost of time.

To illustrate, think of a single puppy in a kennel. A volunteer or a paid employee has to clean the kennel of a puppy at least 5 times a day. They are fed 2-3 times per day, provided clean water and clean bedding. At least 20-30 minutes per animal minimum.

We have 28 puppies right now at the Adoption Center.

They have to have 3 Parvo vaccines at $9 each and a rabies at 4 months at $15. They have to have flea/tick medicine $25 They have to be wormed several times and fixed at 4 months $160.

Since we have to transport 95 percent of our intakes due to not enough homes we have to have health certificates and exams as well as f***l exams at $60-$75. Now each one also has to have a Nexguard to prevent the spread of Screw Worms to other states $25 each.

We have to buy gas to transport, find drivers and spend money to upkeep vehicles. At least $100 gas per trip to Little Rock, much more on our long trips.

Every single animal we take in has a cost and most come with zero donation dollars.

We are out not just out of space
We are out of hours in our day
We are running out of money
We are short on volunteers for everything we do
We are tired, very tired

And most of all our hearts break more than anyone knowing that there are animals suffering that we can’t help and what will happen someday if we are no longer able to help any…..

Alye and her brother Jack came in today to look at our cats and dogs. After careful consideration, they chose Elsie to be their new family member. Elsie was excited and so were we! Alye was quite certain that Jack would be cleaning the litter box every day! Jack was not too excited about that. Elsie is gonna have a lot of fun running this household!

NOT LONELY FOR LONG!
This is Hadley and Chip! Chips, sister, Chocolate went to her new home a few days ago but Chip did not have to be lonely for long.
Hadley finally got to take Chip home this morning and everyone was so excited. Imagine the adventures these two will have as they grow up together.

Bob and Charlene have been chomping at the bit for Chocolate to get all ready for her new home. Today was that day.
Chocolate was just as ready!
Ready for much deserved lap time, cuddling and pampering!
Chocolate is a she but her sibling is light gray and we just couldn’t resist naming them Chocolate & Chip before we knew their s*x! Charlene said her new name would be Bobbie, which is much better.

📢Important Shelter Update- Please Share

Due to the overwhelming number of animals currently in our care, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all dog and cat intakes.

Our shelter is operating beyond capacity, and the increased demand is placing significant stress on both our animals and our staff. To ensure we can continue providing the quality care and attention every animal deserves, we need time to reduce our population and stabilize operations.

We hope to resume accepting dog and cat intakes as soon as possible and will provide updates to our community when that happens.

In the meantime, if you are considering adding a pet to your family, now is a wonderful time to adopt. Every adoption helps us move one step closer to reopening intake services.

Thank you for your continued support of our shelter, our staff, and the animals who depend on us.

🐾 Volunteers Needed at the Shelter! 🐾
Please Share

Our shelter is in need of morning volunteers on a daily basis until we can get our cat population down. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a real difference in the lives of animals in our community, we need your help desperately.

Volunteer duties may include caring for cats, cleaning, feeding, socializing, and helping us keep the shelter running smoothly.

If you're available and interested in volunteering, please stop by the shelter and visit with Les Kent, or call 870-245-2579 for more information.
Every helping hand makes a difference.

Please share this post to help us reach others who may be willing to lend their time and compassion. Thank you for supporting our shelter.
