As many of you have heard, our community experienced a tragic fire a few days ago. Tom, a veteran, and Darlene Weir lost their home and beloved dogs in an explosion on Thursday night. The Legion has established a place to accept donations to help support them during this difficult time. Funds raised will assist with replacing essential items and help ease the challenges they face as they begin to rebuild.
If you would like to contribute, please make checks payable to Tom and Darlene Weir and mail them to:
Argyle American Legion
7 County Route 47
Argyle, NY 12809
Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated as Tom and Darlene begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

Please share this post to reach our entire community.

A huge thank you to the Town of Argyle and its Highway Department for reinstalling our 60+ veteran banners to street poles in our community prior to the Memorial Day Holiday next Monday. The banners will stay up in tribute of to our veterans and active duty service members thru the Veteran's Day Holiday on 11 November.

If you would like to honor a veteran or a currently active duty service member applications can be picked up at the Town Clerk's office, at the Argyle Free Library, from our Legion page, or by seeking out an Argyle Legion Post 1518 member.

With the Memorial Day Holiday coming up next Monday... 27 students, parents, and three teachers from the 4th grade classes at Argyle Central School helped us to place new American flags on the graves of deceased military service members at nearby Prospect Hill Cemetery. This yearly tradition of placing US flags at the gravestones of veterans started many years ago and today honors the nearly 280 veterans buried there. More recently, succeeding 4th grade classes have made it their mission to replace the worn and damaged flags with new flags in time for Memorial Day.

This year new flags were purchased thru a generous Holiday Match donation from the Stewart's Corporation which also includes another 100+ flags which have been placed at the graves of veterans at nine other smaller Argyle cemeteries.

A huge well done and a thank you to all who helped.

This morning several veterans of our Legion Post were able to join with the more than two million volunteers and supporters during National Wreaths Across America Day. Volunteers gathered at more than 5,200 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad to Remember, Honor, and Teach.

At nearby Saratoga National Cemetery over a thousand volunteers, within an hour, placed balsam fir veteran's wreaths at all 17,000+ graves/markers. After placing a wreath the volunteer would salute or place their hand over their heart while reciting the veteran's name. When volunteers say the name of a deceased veteran aloud it ensures they live on in our hearts and memories, remembered for years to come.

With much gratitude to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event and ceremony.
