It's with sadness that we share Argyle Legionnaire member Robert "Bob" Cuthbert passed away this last weekend after serving our country and then 58 years as an American Legion member. As his obit notes...Bob was an active member of our Legion helping wherever he could and marching in countless Memorial Day and 4th of July parades. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

Robert “Bob” G. Cuthbert, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at his home in Hartford, with his loving family by his side.
Born on March 14, 1940, in Smith’s Basin, NY, he was the son of the late Fred and Nina (Whittemore) Cuthbert.
Bob was a 1958 graduate of Argyle Central School.
From 1963 to 1965, Bob proudly served our country in the US Army. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Germany and was awarded with a Good Conduct Medal. At his departure from the service, Bob went to volunteer for the Argyle American Legion, Post 1518. He was an active member of the legion, having marched in many Memorial Day and Fourth of July Parades and helped put together legion dinners.
On November 14, 1969, Bob married the love of his life, Helene “Sis” Graham at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church. The two spent 56 years by each other’s sides, enjoying many travels and raising a wonderful tight-knit family.
In his youth, Bob worked as a volunteer firefighter at the J.A. Barkley Hose Company in Argyle. From here he moved onto working at the metal fabrication company NIBCO in South Glens Falls. He took a break from his work at NIBCO having been drafted into the army, and when he returned, he took a position as a corrections officer at Great Meadows Correctional Facility, later transferring to Washington County Correctional Facility. Bob worked for 33 years as a corrections officer prior to his retirement in 2000. In his retirement, Bob remained very active. He took up work with his nephew, Stevie Reid, at Argyle Hardware.
Bob was a hardworking man who always stayed busy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved golfing and travelling, and cherished his friends and family. He travelled for golfing with his wife and a small group of friends, with the group visiting places in Canada and South Carolina. He traveled even further with his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Jim. Some highlights from their travels include Alaska, Bermuda, and their journeys to the western states. At home he liked tending to his garden, mowing his lawn, and plowing his and his neighbors’ driveways over winter. He was a member of the Argyle Hunting Club, having hunted primarily in Stony Creek. His last buck was an impressive 8 pointer. This love of hunting was passed down to his grandson Nathan; his affinity for golfing was passed to his grandsons Shane, Cody, and Nathan; and his keen eye for crossword puzzles and sudoku was passed to his granddaughter Cami. Bob was a very active Poppy, never missing a sporting event for his grandchildren. He made many fond memories with them, all making birdhouses and other projects in his workshop. Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his brothers, Merwyn (Linda) Cuthbert and Dana Cuthbert; his sister, Shirley (Donald Reid) Cuthbert; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Millicent Graham; and his brother-in-law, Arnold Graham.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Helene “Sis” Cuthbert; his children Amy (Darrin) Lewis and Wendy (Paul) Rogers; his grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Rogers, Nathan (Olivia) Rogers, Camille “Cami” (Caleb) Rogers, Olivia (Brendan) Wright, and Cody Lewis; his great grandchildren, Kennedy and Ben Rogers; expected twin great grandchildren, Max and Mia; his brother, Randy (Diane) Cuthbert; his sister, Cheryl (James) Hutchison; his brothers-in-law, Ralph (Penny) Graham and Patrick (Gina) Graham; his sister-in-law, Bonnie (George) Andrews; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call from 4 to 7pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Argyle.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11am on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 at the funeral home with the Rev. Jan Vincent, officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at the North Argyle Cemetery.
A reception will be held at the Hartford Fire Department, 8118 NY-40, Hartford , NY 12832

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Argyle Rescue Squad, Community Hospice, Dr. O’Leary, Dr. Coppens, and Dr. Pezzulo for their excellent care of Bob.
