Argyle Improvement Association - AIA We are an Argyle nonprofit helping to create an improved future for our community.

The Argyle Improvement Association: building on its previous legacy, the community-wide 2021 survey, a renewed sense of community, and an undiminished love of Argyle, has resurrected itself. The function of the new AIA is to provide a forum for community members to explore issues which we perceive are holding Argyle back, propose solutions, provide sweat equity, and seek and raise funding for the betterment of our community. The AIA believes Argyle’s best days are ahead of us and long-standing issues which have restrained our community can be overcome with determination, a dedicated core of volunteers, and resources of funding and time. The AIA will work with residents, businesses, local and state government entities, elected officials and staff, and other community and non-profit groups to achieve results which improve the quality of life for those who call Argyle home.

AIA is excited to announce that we have secured a grant through The Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) for the Celtic Rock Band, Prydein, performance at Argyle's upcoming Thistle Day celebration on Saturday, 26 September. Music will be starting at 4 pm until 8:30. Saratoga-based rock band Burn the Ships will be performing alternate sets with Prydein. Thank you LARAC for helping to make our Scottish celebration special!

Festivities begin in the morning with Scottish games hosted by the Empire Throwing Club with lots of community groups and vendors providing food, drink, and fun. A bonfire and fireworks spectacular will culminate the evening festivities.

We hope to see you all as we celebrate our Scottish heritage.

The Village and Town of Argyle are embarking on a year-long process of creating a new comprehensive plan to update the previous plan completed in 1991 to help guide our Argyle community into the decades ahead. One of the first steps, a public workshop, will occur on Thursday, 6 August at 6 pm at the new Town Office Building to explain the process and to begin to hear your thoughts.

Staff from LaBella Associates, Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board, Washington County Planning, NY Dept of State, and USDA will be assisting Argyle elected officials and community members as we begin to plan for our future.

This is your chance to have a say in decisions about housing, recreation, public programming, and more.

Join us at the first Public Workshop:

📅 Date: Thursday, August 6th

🕕 Time: 6:00 – 7:30 PM

📍 Location: Town Hall, 1022 Rt-197, Argyle

What to expect:
• A brief presentation on the Comprehensive Plan process, followed by Q&A
• An open house with interactive poster boards where you can share your thoughts on topics on the future of your community, including:

- Housing preferences and needs

- Youth sports and recreation

- Public programming interests

Your input matters. The Comprehensive Plan is built on community feedback and the more voices we hear, the better the plan will reflect what Argyle residents actually want and need.

One hundred years ago this summer our predecessor organization the Village Improvement Association unveiled a memorial plaque to honor patriots of our community who served in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and the World War. The plaque was attached to a large boulder and was located near the original entrance to Prospect Hill Cemetery near a Civil War-era cannon which originally had been placed in between the hardware store and the Argyle National Bank before being moved. Today, that same plaque is now part of a larger American Legion memorial which was dedicated in 1994 to honor service members who served in all wars.

We greatly appreciate the members of the long ago Village Improvement Association for their contributions which live on to this day and we celebrate all the achievements our community has and is doing as we look forward to another 100 years.
