Although the forecast has changed over the past few days, and it's hard telling if or how much snow or ice we might get, what we do know for this next round of winter weather is that we are expecting dangerously cold temps.
As part of our mission to provide space to area residents for various occasions, the Friends Creek Community Building (FCCB) is committed to providing safe shelter to guests during weather emergencies, whether for a warming center, a cooling center, during power outages, or other local emergencies.
We have been fortunate with the weather so far this winter, but in the event we have extreme weather situations throughout the rest of the year, the FCCB managers will do what we can to make sure the building is open to area residents in need of temporary shelter.
If you are in need of a warm place to stay during the upcoming freeze, we will do our best to accommodate your needs to provide shelter. While we do not have beds or a shower facility in the building, we do have a generator, wi-fi, a kitchen, and a couple of sofas to provide some comfort. If the need calls for more provisions, we will be in touch with the Macon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).
There is always the possibility the building might be reserved for a previously booked event at any given time. To ensure we don't have any conflicting events in the building, please call first. You can call Karen at (217) 620-5438, or Greg at (217) 454-2674 if you wish to inquire about sheltering at the FCCB during extreme weather conditions.
Sending out a huge thanks in advance to all those who will be working around the clock to clear roads, answer emergency calls, etc.
Be safe and keep an eye on your neighbors, especially if they are shut-ins!
