Congratulations Ryan!

The Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police awarded Ardmore Officer Ryan Murrell with the 2026 Large Agency Officer of the Year at the annual banquet on May 21st.

This prestigious award is presented to any full-time Oklahoma Law Enforcement Officer who has distinguished themselves in a commendable manner and serves a population over 10,000.

In September 2025, Officer Murrell was engaged in a vehicle pursuit when an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper joined the effort to assist. During the coordinated tactical vehicle intervention, the Trooper’s patrol unit overturned and caught fire. Officer Murrell immediately responded to the unit and forced the door open, deflated the airbag system, and gave clear verbal directions to the Trooper to guide him to safety as he was severely injured and disoriented.

OACP Executive Director Steve Whitlock states "In the face of danger and under extraordinary circumstances, Officer Murrell displayed exceptional bravery, quick judgement, and unwavering commitment to a fellow officer by taking actions that directly saved the life of the Trooper. This act of courage reflects the highest standards of honor, sacrifice, and brotherhood within law enforcement.”

Congratulations to Officer Murrell!

Today, we mourn the loss of Trooper Vernon Brake of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

This is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every single day—risks that most will never fully understand. Trooper Brake dedicated nearly 20 years of his life to serving and protecting the people of Oklahoma, and that kind of commitment and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, loved ones, and our brothers and sisters at OHP during this incredibly difficult time. We also extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the other victims involved in this tragic incident.

Rest easy, Trooper.

Congratulations to officers for their dedication to work! Officers received two awards from the Mayor at last night's city council meeting.

On December 18th, D Set received information from Ada PD about a kidnapping. The suspect's cell phone last pinged in Ardmore, and it had a very large radius on the ping. Within 25 minutes, officers were able to locate the suspect, take him into custody, and get the victim back home safely.

On December 23rd, officers located a stolen vehicle that was tied to a burglary in our jurisdiction. Two suspects were taken into custody, and thousands of dollars' worth of property was recovered. These arrests led to more investigations for other agencies from Dallas to OKC, as these suspects were burglarizing.

We are proud of our officers and the dedication they have to this city!
