Minnesota DeafBlind Project

Minnesota DeafBlind Project The Minnesota DeafBlind Project offers resources, training and support to families and school teams

We work with families and educators to ensure that infants, children and youth to age 21 who are deafblind can reach their full potential. Through training and technical assistance, we help schools improve educational outcomes for students who are deafblind. Through workshops, private consultations, and parent-to-parent support, we help families encourage their child's development. We can help you create a positive future for the child in your life who is deafblind.

That's a wrap on 2025-2026!

Emma Mayes wrapped up the training by blending rich content with meaningful knowledge and real‑life experiences. She incorporated interactive and collaborative activities that equipped our interveners with practical strategies that can be put into practice right away!

Nearly 30 interveners joined us this year, bringing curiosity, thoughtful engagement, and a whole lot of personality! We can't wait to see the impact you'll make as you support students with combined hearing and vision loss across our schools.

We were honored to have Nancy Steele facilitate an incredible weekend of learning for both interveners and parents on the topic of . Nancy brings so much knowledge, experience, and a great sense of humor to her trainings! When surprise guest visitors (AKA wild turkeys) wandered up to the window, she even tried to practice her cross-species communication without formal language!

Communication with children who are varies greatly and there are many meaningful strategies that we can use to support even the earliest communicators. If you are looking for more information about communication for DeafBlind learners, contact the MN DeafBlind Project today!
