The shed is CLOSED until I can come up with a better solution on protecting the shed.
To our Giving Shed Community,
I never thought I would have to make a post like this, but unfortunately I do.
Over the past several weeks, there have been multiple incidents of vandalism and theft at The Giving Shed. We have had a woman driving a black SUV, with blonde hair, attempting to break in through the back window. We have also found Dr Pepper cans filled with shaving cream left throughout the shed, clothing and donated items intentionally thrown everywhere, and now our money donation box has been ripped down and stolen.
I want to be honest—I am heartbroken, frustrated, and angry. Along with the volunteers that are here regularly.
The Giving Shed was created as a place where people could come together as a community, helping neighbors in need through kindness and generosity. Every item donated, every volunteer hour given, and every dollar contributed comes from people who genuinely care about helping others.
When someone vandalizes the shed, destroys donated items, or steals from it, they are not hurting me alone. They are hurting every family who depends on this resource and every person who has generously donated to keep it running.
To the person who stole the donation box: if you happen to see this post, please consider returning it. There was only about $6 inside. It cost us $30 for the box. If you were truly in need of that money, all you had to do was ask. The Giving Shed exists to help people, and we would have done our best to help you. Taking from a place that was created to serve those in need only makes it harder for us to continue helping others.
I am asking our community to please help us protect The Giving Shed. If you see suspicious activity, please report it and if you can take pictures of any one or anything it helps us solve the issues (maybe even getting the police involved). If you have any information regarding these incidents, please contact us privately.
To the many people who continue to support, volunteer, donate, and treat this space with respect—thank you. You are the reason The Giving Shed continues to serve our community despite challenges like these.
We will not let the actions of a few overshadow the kindness of so many.
