The Venturing Crew and Troop went backpacking at Grayson Highlands State Park this weekend. We arrived Friday at 9 p.m. and by headlamps hiked the AT Spur Trail up to the Appalachian Trail. We then headed north on the AT for about one and a half miles until we set up base camp. Saturday morning we got up made breakfast and then headed Northbound on the AT pass Wise Shelter and up to the Scales. We then proceeded up Ridge Trail to Rhododendron Gap were we headed Northbound on the AT through Fat Man Squeeze arriving back at basecamp. The trip was great. Enjoy the pics...

Spread the Word...Troop 25 will be conducting a Food Drive this Saturday from 10 AM till 11 AM at C.O.A.T. located at 10607 North Main Street, Archdale, NC 27263. Just look for the pick-up truck and Scout uniforms ;-)

Community Outreach for Archdale and Trinity (COAT) is dangerously low on food items used to support members of our community. Rita is very grateful that our unit is doing this.

Can Foods are preferred. Encourage friends and family to swing by and drop-off some items to support this endeavor.

We are planning a train trip to Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral Florida in January. We'll leave Archdale Friends Meeting at 6 PM on Friday, January 18th and we'll return Tuesday, January 22nd before Noon. We will be taking a Train to Florida. Sleeping at a KOA Camp Ground and Touring the Kennedy Space Center along with a few other places of interest. The cost is about $200.00 per person. Let me know if you are interested in going...

Sombrero Key Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA) has a spur-and-groove reef formation with stands of elkhorn coral.

It is located 3.5 nautical miles seaward of Boot Key and is named for the historic Sombrero Key Light in the northern corner of this triangular SPA.

Just five years before General George G. Meade defeated Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, Meade was building lighthouses in the Florida Keys, completing Sombrero Light in 1858. Nearly 30 years later, the Army's "lighthouse brigade" completed the aids to navigation that ended the lucrative salvaging industry in the Keys.

Today, Sombrero Key's treasure is the reef, home to beautiful branching and boulder corals. Enjoy the pics...
