You could have done anything with Saturday morning. You spent it at King Salmon with a bucket.

August 22 happens to be the day Surfrider Foundation turned 42, and you spent it giving this stretch of shoreline a better day than it started with.

Forty two years of ocean protection runs on people who show up. At cleanups, yes. Also in comment periods, at council meetings, and behind the bills that decide what reaches this beach in the first place. Saturday is where a lot of that starts. Gloves two sizes too big, a five gallon bucket of waterlogged cardboard, a driftwood seahorse standing guard over the whole operation, a toddler on her first cleanup.

Thank you to every single person for being stewards of the ocean.

Cleanups aren’t the only way in. Membership is $5 at humboldt.surfrider.org, and members are what put weight behind the chapter’s policy work.

Sea you next time.🌊🧤

🎉 Surfrider turns 42 this month, and we’re celebrating with an opportunity drawing.

One lucky member will be drawn to receive a set of our brand-new Love Your Beach swag. 🌊🧢 And getting in is easy: for just $5, join or renew your Surfrider Humboldt membership before the end of August and you’re automatically entered.

Think of it as a little birthday gift to the coast, with maybe a little something back for you. Your membership powers the cleanups, the water-quality testing, and the campaigns that keep our North Coast wild and open to everyone.

Join or renew for $5 by August 31 and you’re entered. We’ll draw the recipient the first week of September.

Know someone who loves these beaches as much as you do? Send this their way. Best birthday gift Surfrider could ask for. 💙

Surfrider turns 42 on August 22, so we’re throwing the party where it belongs: on the beach, gloves on. 🌊🎂

Join us for our Beach + Invasives Cleanup in King Salmon. We’ll clear trash off the shoreline and pull invasive plants that crowd out our native dune habitat; two hours of real, visible impact for the coast we all love.

🗓️ Saturday, August 22
⏰ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 King Salmon, CA
🧤 Gloves, bags & tools provided. Just bring water, sun protection, and closed-toe shoes.

No experience needed. Come for an hour or stay the whole morning; every pair of hands counts, and it’s a pretty great way to spend a Saturday.

42 years of protecting our ocean, waves and beaches. Let’s make year 42 count. 💙

Save this post, mark your calendar, and send it to the friend you’d drag out of bed for a 9am beach date.

That’s a wrap! Tomorrow (7/17) is our final Friday Night Market of the season. 🌊

Come find the blue tent across from the gazebo in Old Town from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. This is the last time you’ll catch us at the market this summer, so swing by before we pack up.

Our membership drive is still on. Becoming a Surfrider Humboldt member is the most direct way to power the local work you love: beach cleanups, dune restoration, and defending coastal access on the North Coast. Sign up right at the table, no experience needed.

And take two minutes for the coast while you’re here. We’re backing AB 2734, a state bill that fixes how Whale Tail license plate money gets spent so more of it actually funds coastal access and education. Add your name at the link.

See you tomorrow. 🌊

Look for the blue tent tonight(7/10). 🌊

We’re back at Eureka Friday Night Market on Friday, 7/10 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in Old Town, and we’re growing our crew.

Our membership drive is on. Becoming a Surfrider Humboldt member is the most direct way to power the local work you love: beach cleanups, dune restoration, and defending coastal access right here on the North Coast. Stop by the table, ask us anything, and sign up on the spot.

While you’re there, take two minutes for the coast. We’re backing AB 2734, a state bill that fixes how Whale Tail license plate money gets spent so more of it actually funds coastal access and education. Right now only about a quarter of that revenue reaches the coast. This bill changes that.

Add your name at the link in bio, then come find us in person.

The day after the 4th of July is the dirtiest beach day of the year.🎆

Firework debris. Plastic cups. Bottle caps. Food wrappers. Half of it gets buried in the sand. The rest heads for the ocean.

For 20+ years, Surfrider volunteers have shown up the morning after to clean it up. It’s the biggest cleanup of the year. Last July 5th, chapters across the country pulled 50,000+ pounds of trash off the sand; 2,200 volunteers, 50+ cleanups, nationwide.

This year, Humboldt’s doing our part. Come help us clear Power Poles before the tide takes it out to sea.

📍 Power Poles, Samoa
🗓️ Sunday, July 5th
⏰ 9AM – 12PM

Just bring yourself: we’ve got gloves, buckets, and bags covered. Bring your crew too. More hands, lighter beach.
One morning. One stretch of sand. A whole lot less plastic in the Pacific.

See you on the sand. 🤙

To the crew who showed up at Clam Beach this morning: thank you.

It doesn’t take a hundred people to make a difference. It takes the ones who actually come. You spent your International Surfing Day with your hands in the sand, pulling out what doesn’t belong there, and the beach is cleaner tonight because you did.

Small crews do real work. Every piece of trash that left with you is one that won’t end up in the water.

Want in next time? We do this all year. Follow along and come grab a trash grabber. The regulars always have room for one more.

What’s the strangest thing you found out there today? Drop it in the comments.

Want to help protect Humboldt’s coast? Come find us. 🌊

Surfrider Humboldt is tabling at Friday Night Market on Friday, June 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in Old Town Eureka.

We’re looking for new volunteers and members. Beach cleanups, water quality, coastal protection, community events. There’s a spot for you.

No experience needed. Just stop by the booth, say hi, and we’ll show you how to get involved.

Bring a friend. Bring your questions. Bring your love for this coast.

📍 Old Town Eureka
🗓️ Fri 6/19, 5:30-8:30 pm

See you there.

“Beyond the blackline.”

It’s what Catherine calls the moment you leave the pool’s edge behind and head into water that doesn’t have lanes or limits.

Years of elite competitive swimming taught her discipline. The ocean taught her something different.

Swim California isn’t about a record. It’s about what happens when you step past what’s certain. About making ocean spaces more accessible, especially for women and underrepresented communities. About a coast worth protecting.

She’s swimming for Sea Dreamers, the nonprofit she founded to open the ocean to more people.

And she’s coming to us.
