Thanks to our state reps. Assemblymember Chris Rogers and Assemblymember Damon Connolly for visiting King Salmon during yesterday's event to support the flood recovery! And thanks to Humboldt COAD for setting up a site for tax-deductible donations: https://www.humboldtcoad.org. We often hear "King Salmon always floods" but this was different: nearly 40 homes were seriously damaged. Think of what a foot of water inside your house would do! Ruined carpets, flooring, refrigerators, furniture...and many vehicles were destroyed.

Please be very careful anywhere near the bay and creeks tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 4! The high tide around noon is expected to be much higher than predicted again, with more rain and strong wind from the south overnight. Many low-lying areas and roadways are much more flooded than we've seen in years.

This week's flooded some low-lying areas around Humboldt Bay. Thanks to Jennifer Savage for this excellent article King Tides — what they are (and are not), and how they provide a glimpse into the future in a region with the highest rate of sea level rise in California. California King Tides

The highest King Tides of the year arrived in Humboldt County this week, offering both a spectacle and a warning.  Unlike waves or swell, which are wind-driven, tides are the daily rise and fall of the ocean, created by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun. They become “King” tides when t...

"At this moment in time, perhaps more than ever before in our nation’s history, we need California to show the world we mean what we say when it comes to protecting public health and our natural world," says Martha Guzman, former EPA Region 9 Administrator. SB 601 can help secure CA as a leader: http://bit.ly/4f0TT9F Mike McGuire Chris Rogers

OPINION - Thanks to President Trump’s deep reach into the current makeup of the US Supreme Court, sudden shifts in our regulatory environment are creating shockwaves on a wide range of topics that have left state leaders scrambling to retain our safety nets.

HUGE THANKS TO Pro Tem Mike McGuire and Senator Anna Caballero for recognizing that SB 607, despite good intentions, would have created numerous unintended consequences. Thank you for your commitment to building critical infrastructure that benefits communities rather than sacrificing public health and the environment.
