Help us celebrate 49 years of defending Northern California's forests, watersheds, and wildlife.

On Saturday, Nov. 7th, EPIC's Fall Celebration returns to the Arcata Veterans Hall (6–8:30 PM) with a catered dinner, music, and a raffle of locally made prizes. This year we're honoring lifelong environmental advocate Steve "Sungnome" Madrone with the 2026 Sempervirens Lifetime Achievement Award.

We're looking for sponsors to help us raise $5,000 to cover the cost of the evening. Every tier includes recognition and reserved seats at the celebration:

Join us Saturday, October 10th for AB 2494: Where Do We Go From Here? & THP Comment Workshop

Last month, vetoed AB 2494 (Rogers), our bill to modernize the management of state-owned "demonstration forests."

The fight for our public forests isn't over. Come hear an update on the legislation from EPIC Attorney Melodie Meyer, then learn how to monitor Timber Harvest Plans and submit effective public comments with veteran forest advocate Rick Coates.

EPIC joined the 30x30 Partnership Summit in San Fransisco yesterday with partners from around the state for a day of celebrating progress and momentum towards our shared goal of conserving 30% of lands and coastal waters by the year 2030 in order to stave off some of the worst impacts of climate disaster, and loss of biodiversity.

Our wonderful Assemblymember Chris Rogers joined to speak about North Coast climate and conservation priorities, highlighting how ecologically diverse Assembly District 2 is 🌊🌲⛰️🦦

The summit had a surprise guest (Governor Gavin Newsom) who announced that we are halfway there on meeting our goal on the terrestrial side. While this is great news, we know that conserving 2.9 million acres of land over the next four years is no small feat.

Part II: How effective are forests at fighting climate change?

In the U.S., temperate forests are our single largest land-based carbon sink, offsetting about 14% of yearly CO2 emissions. In California, forests and shrublands (including soil) hold over 70% of the state's total carbon storage. Harvested wood products? Just 3.8%.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Join us and our allies at Environment California Research & Policy Center in counting wildlife along roads between Oct. 2 and 11 as part of the 2026 Roadside Wildlife Count.

Volunteers will use the ROaDs app created by to track the impacts of roads on wildlife this fall. Data from this project will be shared with researchers and state officials to support efforts to mitigate the impact of our roads on wildlife and us.
