The Humboldt Permaculture Guild (HPG) is a community of food producers, business owners, builders, educators, permaculture designers, Earth and seed stewards, and engaged community members. We share a commitment to resilient homes and communities, regenerative living, community education, stewardship of natural systems, local seed development, natural and appropriate building practices, efficient

and productive use of water and energy, and thoughtful, holistic approaches to living and problem-solving. Permaculture provides an accessible and empowering framework for the individual and cultural changes needed to address environmental and social challenges. Our work focuses on resilience, adaptation, meeting basic needs (food, water, shelter, and community), understanding natural patterns and relationships, and creating models that inspire and support others. The Humboldt Permaculture Guild provides opportunities for connection, collaboration, and action. We host social gatherings and educational events, build a flexible, productive guild structure, partner with complementary organizations, support the design and implementation of permaculture initiatives, and educate, inspire, and mobilize our community toward a more regenerative future.

Feeling grateful we were blessed with such a pristine day for our 3rd monthly Garden Gathering of the year in ivy matheny north's fabulous space ! 🌱🌞🌸 Huge thanks to Ivy & co. for hosting such a breezy, casual event in their lovingly-tended garden(s), and to everyone who showed up to learn, socialize, and exchange ideas/knowledge on this sunny July Sunday πŸ™ From rain catchment systems, to fruit trees espaliered along a front-yard fence - Ivy's garden is an awesome representation of how a property can be absolutely transformed (over the course of just a few years) from a standard suburban landscape, to a thriving ecosystem demonstrating multiple permaculture techniques and principles. πŸŒ€πŸ’ͺ

Join us for our third Garden Gathering Sunday, July 12, at the home of Ivy North in Arcata! ivy matheny north

Ivy and their family will be opening up their home garden for you to explore and be inspired with all they’ve created and grown the last six and a half years on this 1/16th acre city lot!

Come on by to check out espalier fruit trees, swale gardening, rainwater catchment, a wide selection of perennial plants and so much more!

This garden is ideal for inspiration on how to work with a small city plot, limited resources and patience if you have an aim to minimize maintenance and water usage each year for more time in the hammock, relaxing and enjoying the fruits of your labor!

Ivy will share how the family has played the long game, revitalizing their plot by collecting cuttings and seeds, grafting their own trees and seeking out free wood chips over many years!

Please note: The garden includes narrow and sloping paths. There will be refreshments and a bathroom accessible, with parking available on Buttermilk lane.

Hope to see you there!
