🌊 I believe that this practice can extend beyond the forest (and I have done so myself) to encompass a diversity of ecosystems, each offering its own sensory and therapeutic qualities. The ocean, desert, chaparral, marsh, and other landscapes contain distinct aromatic compounds and ecological conditions that may influence our well- being in their own way.

♻️ What I appreciate most about guided Nature & Forest Therapy, however, is that it invites us into a reciprocal relationship with the more-than- human world. Rather than simply approaching nature as something from which we derive benefits, it encourages us to slow down, listen, notice, and consider our place within a living system. In this way, it becomes not merely what nature can do for us, but about how we might cultivate a more attentive, reciprocal relationship with the places that hold and sustain us.

♥️ The guided experience includes the heart as another sense. Alongside what we see, hear, taste, and feel through touch, there is what we perceive through the heart, a way of sensing connection, presence, and relationship that is just as meaningful to the experience.

I am very thankful for being a sentient being on this beautiful planet, and for sharing it with other sentient beings. The world seems to be spinning faster these days, so slowing down to take a moment of appreciation and notice each other is quite a little miracle. ✨ 🌏 🐿️

Well this just made my day! Last year Mr. Pileated came to my yard to eat huckleberries for the first time. And all year I hoped he would come back and maybe bring a mate. Well, he did indeed return, maybe not with a mate but with his adolescent who he is teaching to forage and climb. ♥️🖤🤍

On June 9, 2026, the small municipality of Terrasee-Vaudreuil, Quebec became the first town in Canada to officially recognize trees as sentient living beings with rights of their own. Nestled just west of Montreal, the town council unanimously adopted a historic resolution endorsing the international Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Tree. This declaration grants local trees foundational protections, including the “right to life, to natural growth, to integrity and to regeneration”. Sparked by local environmental advocacy and a compelling documentary showing how trees breathe and communicate.

Trees are linked by mycorrhizal networks that allow them to share sugars and water, supporting sick or shaded neighbors. When attacked by insects, trees emit chemical pheromones and electrical impulses through their roots and bark. Neighbors that receive these signals produce bitter tannins to defend themselves. Older “mother trees” utilize root networks to feed young seedlings, shading them and regulating their growth to ensure they survive. Trees can also “remember” past droughts or pest infestations, altering their future defense mechanisms accordingly even passing these adaptations to the next generation. While they do not possess a central nervous system, they experience localized reactions to injury, releasing stress hormones and electrical signals analogous to animal pain responses.
