-Teachers for Safe Arcadia Schools-
Teachers are Urging a Yes Vote on Measure AS to Maintain Safe Schools, Property Values, and Top-Tier Education in Arcadia
Arcadia, CA – Local teachers, parents, and community leaders are urging residents to support Measure AS, an essential $358 million school bond measure on the November ballot that aims to protect the outstanding quality and safety of Arcadia schools, ensuring they remain a key driver of high property values and community stability.
Arcadia is recognized as one of Southern California’s premier cities, known for its top 1% ranked schools in the nation, which is the primary factor sustaining its strong property values. According to a recent report from the City of Arcadia, the high standard of Arcadia Unified School District (AUSD) schools significantly contributes to the desirability of the area, attracting families who value elite education and contributing to Arcadia's thriving community.
“Families have been moving to Arcadia for a long time for one reason and one reason only: the schools,” said retired Arcadia teacher Mike Danielson. “If we want Arcadia to remain a destination district and city, we have to support the schools, and we have to vote yes on Measure AS.”
Measure AS will address vital safety and infrastructure improvements, including modernized facilities, earthquake-resistant buildings, and upgraded security systems. These improvements are essential to maintain the high standards that Arcadia schools have set, ensuring students continue to learn in secure, well-maintained environments.
“The success of our students is closely tied to the safety and quality of our facilities. Ensuring that our schools are secure, updated, and resilient is a top priority for our community,” said Tim Rhee, who is a teacher in Arcadia, a parent of Arcadia students, and who is married to a fellow Arcadia teacher. “Measure AS will allow us to make critical upgrades without diverting funds from classroom instruction, supporting both students, teachers, and property owners.”
Support for Measure AS extends widely across Arcadia, with endorsements from teachers, parents, and community leaders who understand that local property values are strongly connected to the reputation and quality of local schools. Should AUSD’s schools decline in quality or ranking, property values could face significant declines, affecting all homeowners across the city.
“Voting yes on Measure AS is not just an investment in our schools; it’s an investment in our community,” said Courtney Franz, the Arcadia Unified Teacher of the Year and a Finalist for L.A. County Teacher of the Year.
“Join us in safeguarding Arcadia’s future, ensuring our children learn in safe environments, and keeping our city’s property values high,” Danielson added.
