Sharon Kwan’s Baseless Lawsuit

If you wonder what happened at tonight’s city council meeting, here it is - After saying it was time to “move on” from her censure, Mayor Kwan dragged in two residents—Stephanie Aikin (secretary of the Arcadia Downtown Improvement Association) and Laurie Thompson (ARB Chair, former HOA president)—to sue the City of Arcadia and demand the city council to Invalidate the censure, Strip the Council’s authority and Force taxpayers to pay for their legal circus. Way to go, Mayor Kwan and April Verlato.

Their lawsuit flips reality on its head—claiming public comments weren’t allowed, decorum rules are unlawful, censure isn’t legal, and the Council can’t set limits on mayoral authority. In truth, public comment was always heard, decorum rules are standard, censure is a routine accountability tool, and the Council acted squarely within its powers.

After all their talk about “saving money,” now they want taxpayers to bankroll this ridiculous, completely upside-down lawsuit.

👉 This is nothing more than a political stunt—wasting taxpayer money and sowing division when Arcadia deserves unity and stability.

Tonight’s City Council meeting was unprecedented pure madness. Mayor Kwan and her attorney Cory Briggs tried to bulldoze past the rules, as if laws and procedures don’t exist. In her imaginary world, repeating herself enough times is all it takes to get her way. Too bad her attorney didn’t know better about Brown Act or he would not have agreed to speak on behalf of the mayor. Ouch! Here went thousands of $ of attorney fees…

But order won out. The Council passed the censure of Mayor Kwan, 4–0. Justice done!

🚨 Arcadia Residents: Your Voice is Needed on Tuesday

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., the Arcadia City Council will hold a special meeting at City Hall to consider a formal censure of Mayor Sharon Kwan. This is not just another meeting — this is a turning point for the future of our city.

For too long, Mayor Kwan’s conduct has disrespected the very people who protect and serve Arcadia. She has:
• Refused to support our veterans and dismissed our first responders as “special interest groups.”
• Silence council-members and intimidated residents while undermining city staff with unfounded accusations, turning council chambers into a stage for division and disruption.
• Falsely accused a fellow councilmember of sexual harassment to smear his character and silence dissent.
• Acted under the control of former mayor April Verlato, advancing her personal agenda instead of serving Arcadia residents.
• Supported unreasonable homeless housing projects that threaten the safety and character of our city.
• Suspended and fined by FINRA for violations as a financial adviser, including undisclosed $1.4M joint bank accounts with clients .

Censure is the strongest step the City Council can take to formally condemn this behavior and protect the integrity of Arcadia’s government. But for this action to truly carry weight, the Council must know that the community stands behind them. Your presence in the chambers will send a powerful and undeniable message that Arcadia will not tolerate intimidation, disrespect, or abuse of power.

This is the time for residents to stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of our shared values: respect for veterans, support for first responders, accountability in government, and the right of every resident to speak freely without fear.
