Reah International was established in 2005 to foster unity in the Body of Christ and strengthen the Christian workforce focused on North Korean engagement. To further the Kingdom, our mission is to equip Christians with spiritual and practical resources needed in the field; to empower Christians by developing global and local communities to grow in faith and relational accountability toward engage
ment ; and to connect Christians to tangible opportunities via prayer, giving, and service in support of His work there. And it is our hope to empower believers with a friend mentality based on John 15:15, in which Jesus declares that we are no longer His servants but His friends, if we obey and abide in Him. Servants only do what is demanded, but friends are co-labor in His work out love and take ownership of it. For the past nine years, Reah has worked to raise the profile of Christian workers in NK and strengthen communities outside the country who desire to befriend those in the field. These efforts have helped to bring distant communities together and align them to our shared mission. As these relationships grow through Reah’s initiatives to facilitate dialogue, collaborate, and spearhead efforts that would otherwise be difficult due to the isolated nature of the work there, Reah has gained widespread trust and credibility locally in Asia, as well as outside the country. The natural byproduct of our work has helped to increase the accessibility of information regarding the work in NK which we believe has become a pivotal resource to connect individuals with concrete opportunities abroad and for those already established there. Some other examples of our work include: sending hundreds of short-term workers to northeast China and NK; partnering with organizations such as Christian Friends of Korea and Pyongyang University of Science and Technology; helping establish businesses such as Barnabas Trading, a company that helps businesses with logistical, legal, and other practical issues in NK; hosting retreats whereby reconciliation, forgiveness, and restoration take place in the midst of a divided community for field workers in Yanji, Rajin-Sonbong, and Pyongyang; creating environments to connect thousands of individuals and organizations toward engagement through conferences; and establishing NK-focused groups in cities such as New York, Seoul, and Toronto. Today, Reah operates on a budget of approximately $315,000 and is supported by three staff members and twenty dedicated volunteer staff in 10 cities. Through the dedication of over 1000 individuals, Reah has provided support to the North Korean mission field and has gained insight into the mission field there that no other organization can claim. It continues to increase its presence, developing new and stronger relationships with individuals, churches, mission-focused businesses, and institutions to continue what we do best - identifying gaps in the Body and resourcing them through our relational approach.
