In Wisconsin, boating safety certification (or an out-of-state equivalent) is required for operators born on or after Jan. 1, 1989. However, anyone is eligible to take the class to learn boating safety.

There are convenient online class options, and there is at least one in-person class per county each year.

FIRE DANGER HIGH

Good morning AVFR Friends. The DNR has our area in the “High” fire danger level. Burn permits are required but burning is not recommended. Winds are supposed to become gusty this afternoon. Coupled with the warmth and low humidities, this can lead to increased fire potential.

Please use good sense when working outdoors with anything that can generate an ignition source.

Thank you Friends. Be safe!!!

Elevated fire weather conditions are possible this afternoon due to gusty winds and low humidity. Elevated fire weather conditions are likely on Wednesday due to warm temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity. There is an increased potential of power line fires on Wednesday. Please check with the Wisconsin DNR and your local officials about any burning restrictions.

Keep an eye out for new spongy moth egg masses! If you find these squishy, tan-colored masses on your property, gently scrape them into soapy water, let them sit for two days, and throw them away. Each egg mass scraped saves Wisconsin’s trees and forests from 500+ new spongy moths! Learn more at spongymoth.wi.gov.

[8/29/24] 11:40AM. The Marginal Risk has expanded a little farther east. We expect severe storms to develop over Minnesota and western Wisconsin along a cold front in the afternoon. These storms will then head east, arriving in central and north central Wisconsin late this evening and eastern Wisconsin during the overnight hours. These storms will weaken as they shift east, reducing the threat for strong to severe storms for areas further east. The main concerns for any stronger storms will be damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall.
