The Society’s mission is to preserve and teach the history of Arab and the surrounding area through monthly programs, published books, “Historic Arab” newsletter and by giving tours of the Historic Village. Quite the kerfuffle in 1899. Mr. Neely (𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩 Publisher) may have needed some space filler for that issue. Or, one might ask, was it that big a deal?

Y'ALL COME ↦↦ Step back in time this Saturday at 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐘, happening from 9am to 4pm at the Arab Historical Village in Arab City Park.
Explore the Elvin Light Museum, tour all the historic buildings, watch the grist mill in action, and see our 1930 printing press, Ralph, hard at work. This special invitation was even printed the old-fashioned way by Johnny Tidmore using his own 1910 antique press, Susie. Check out the detail on that copper-engraved cut of an antique thresher. The pre-WWII cut was donated by Renee & Brent Winslett, along with dozens more amazing cuts.
Bring the family and experience history come to life. You don't want to miss it.

The list of contributions made by 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 toward Arab's progress is long. We can add newspaper correspondent to that list. The first edition of 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧 was published on Friday, August 5, 1955. Flora Ann (Mrs. Leon) Hinds is listed as a correspondent for Arab. On its banner, the 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧 states "Serving The Nation's Most Densely Populated Rural Area." Who knew??
(Compared to 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙧𝙖𝙗 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙣𝙚's 1958 Inaugural Issue that looked perfect, the whole layout of the 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧's first issue looked rough. But the publisher Jesse Culp noted their team had a hard time working long hours with that first issue and missed the deadline.)
The second image was taken from 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭 by Johnny Tidmore and published by the Society in 2025. Link to purchase your copy is in the comments.

This is a good factual synopsis. With the exception that "Accutex" was misspelled. It was named Accutek. The photo of the "Arab Doctors" in a parade is great!

Janet Bright delivered funds from sale of flags and coins to the treasurer of the Arab Historical Society. She carried back a sprout from a caladium plant that has been in Wallace’s his family over 100 years.
