Summer camp prep is officially underway.

Today, a couple of our Scouts made a Hobby Lobby run to pick up supplies for their patrol flag. They have a design, they have materials, and they have a plan.

Now we’ll see if the finished flag looks like the plan. 😄⚜️

We can’t wait to see what they create

I want to say we have some amazing young men and ladies in our troop that live what they believe.

Though they recite it in the Scout Oath regularly, the young Arab residents may not have fully understood the meaning of “duty to country.” But on a cold, windy November day, members of Scouting America Troop 60 in Arab showed what honor and respect look like in practice, not just in principle. That heart for service doesn’t happen by accident.

Check out this heartwarming story of how this scout troop honored the lives and sacrifices of local veterans. 👇

We’re in that awkward period between school ending and summer camp starting.

Which means Scout families everywhere are beginning the annual search for gear they were absolutely sure they knew where they put.

School’s out which means summer camp prep has officially started.

Packing lists are being checked. Gear is getting dug out. Somebody is already overthinking snacks.

And somehow every Scout suddenly has strong opinions about socks.

Summer camp is one of the best parts of troop life honestly.

If your family has been curious about Scouts, summer is a good time to come see what it’s all about. Message the page for details.

Today isn’t really about cookouts and sales.

It’s about remembering the men and women who gave their lives serving this country and the families who never got them back.

We’re thankful for that sacrifice, and proud to help teach our Scouts that service, respect, and honoring others still matters.

Hope everybody has a safe Memorial Day today. ❤️🤍💙

Today Troop 60 spent time placing flags to honor veterans ahead of Memorial Day.

One of the things we try to teach in Scouting is that service matters, respect matters, and remembering people matters.

It was a simple thing, but important things usually are.

We’re proud of these Scouts for taking the time to show honor and gratitude to those who served.

At this point Scout families basically travel with a mobile outdoor supply store.

There’s usually at least one folding chair, three mystery water bottles, sunscreen from 2022, rope nobody remembers packing, a random carabiner, snack crumbs, and a hoodie somebody swears they lost six months ago.

And somehow the vehicle still smells faintly like campfire.

Honestly this may be the most realistic photo of Scout life possible.

What permanently lives in your vehicle now because of your kid’s activities?

A lot of parents think troop meetings are just camping prep. They’re really not.

Yeah there’s knots and trip planning and merit badge work and somebody asking where they were supposed to be five minutes ago.

But mostly it looks like kids learning stuff, getting distracted by side quests, arguing over the “best” way to do something, then suddenly everybody’s back on task like nothing happened.

The Scouts lead. The adults guide and supervise while occasionally exchanging the “welp, here we go” look across the room.

And no, it’s not camping all the time.

Some kids show up already loving the outdoors. Some don’t. Some are loud. Some barely talk the first few meetings. That’s normal too.

If your family has been curious about Scouting, you’re welcome to come visit and see a meeting for yourself. Message the page for details.
