Gov. Abigail Spanberger is directing more than $500,000 in agriculture and forestry grants to communities across Central Virginia, with funding split among 14 localities to grow agriculture-related businesses and build out infrastructure.

We are honored to be one of the recipients of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services AFID Grants. Funding will help fund the construction of the agriculture complex on the land laboratory.

Governor Abigail Spanberger today announced the award of 14 Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) Fund Infrastructure Grants to support projects that will establish and expand opportunities for local producers and strengthen local food systems. Grants totaling more than $507,000 were awarded to 14 different localities to fund a range of projects including animal and wood products processing facilities, a shared-use cannery and commercial kitchens, farmers market, creamery expansion, produce packing facility, and the creation of a new regional livestock marketing complex.

Appomattox FFA chapter named best in the state

The Appomattox Senior FFA chapter has been named the top agricultural education program in Virginia, taking first place in the National Chapter Award contest at the 100th Virginia FFA Convention in Blacksburg.

Words can’t convey how much we appreciate the The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation’s support. We are very grateful and humbled to have been chosen as the 2026 Century Fund grant recipient.

We were excited to host the Foundation and its board members this morning at the build site. We were glad to see a large turnout. The future is looking bright for Appomattox agriculture!

Tomorrow, The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation will stop by the land lab to present the 2026 Century Fund grant award. Supporters, friends, members of the Appomattox Senior FFA and Appomattox Middle FFA, and media can join us at 10:00 AM at the land lab for this exciting milestone in our community’s agricultural future.

📍Please enter the high school through the Evergreen Avenue Lot and drive behind the high school to the land lab. The address for ACHS is 198 Evergreen Ave. Appomattox, VA 24522.
🚗 Parking will be available on the land lab.
🕙 Plan to arrive a few minutes early to get seated before the presentation. The gates open at 9:30 AM.

We are so excited and proud of the accomplishments of Appomattox Senior FFA and Appomattox Middle FFA Chapters at the 100th Virginia FFA Convention! Help celebrate their achievements including the Top FFA Chapter in Virginia, State Champion Farm Business Management CDE team, and newly elected Virginia FFA State Vice President Savannah Jones this afternoon.

An es**rt from AVFD 🚒 and the Sheriff’s Department 🚔 will start at Concord Sheetz.

Approximate time and itinerary of the bus:

3:55 Light at Concord Sheetz
Then will travel 460 to Confederate Ave to enter town.
The bus will go to ACHS via Redfields Road.

Anticipated arrival at ACHS is 4:10.
