Today we mark Juneteenth — the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally heard what had already been declared: that they were free. That gap - between the truth being spoken and the truth being received - is worth sitting with. Freedom had been proclaimed. And still, it took time, resistance, and the courageous witness of others to make it real for those it was meant to reach. The church has not always been on the right side of that gap. We confess that. And we are called today to be people who help the proclaimed freedom of God reach those it has not yet reached. May we honor this day with commitment to a better future!

Many spaces are not always a welcoming place for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. That is a truth worth sitting with. But the Gospel is bigger than the world's failures. It tells us that every person is created in the image of God, that love is unconditional, and that belonging is not something anyone has to earn. Today, Fox Valley Pride fills Jones Park right here in Appleton — and we celebrate alongside our neighbors, grateful for the courageous people who have claimed that truth even when the others told them otherwise. Gwen Schwandt, Diana Staedt, and Pastor Jason have spent the last two and a half days as voting members to Synod Assembly of the East Central Synod of Wisconsin - ELCA in Oshkosh. It has been wonderful days filled with ministry and discernment.
