Pastor Jason is spending this week in continuing education at the PREACH! 2026 Gathering. The three-day convening of pastors, leaders, and community voices are wrestling with how Faith Leaders preach the Good News in an increasingly divided and divisive society. The days have included deeply inspiring sermons, open and honest conversations, and time in the Minneapolis neighborhoods particularly affected by the federal government occupation during Operation Metro Surge.

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has issued a statement on the recent proposal to livestream an ex*****on in the United States.

"As a church, we are not strangers to the mournful effects of violent crime. Our congregations minister to victims, to offenders and to communities that experience the ripple effects of its trauma. We recognize the need to protect people from violence, to call perpetrators to repentance, and to seek restoration for victims. United in our resistance to hate and in our joy over the good news of God’s grace, we minister to an often-vengeful society with words and actions of hope, justice and healing."

Without looking do you know whose faces appear on our U.S. coins? Don't feel bad if you had to think about a while. We handle these little coins all the time and hardly ever really look at them. In our Gospel for this Sunday, someone hands Jesus a coin, and he asks almost the same question, "Whose face is this?" His answer turns out to matter a lot more than pocket change. Some invitations come with an RSVP card, a dress code, and a reply-by date. This Sunday, we are hearing about an invitation that came with none of that. No guest list. No one checking names at the door. Just servants sent out to the street corners to invite everyone they could find, "both good and bad," as Jesus puts it. And the banquet hall is filled! Yesterday, the City of Appleton Planning Commission heard public comments regarding proposed zoning changes meant to match the priorities laid out in the new master plan. One such change will impact our own redevelopment project by reducing barriers for us to create affordable housing on our property. Now four years into our project, this change brings the redevelopment into an even closer reality towards much needed affordable housing.

Zion was proud to be able to support the purchase of these shelving units for Hope Fridge in Menasha in support of their ongoing recovery efforts following the July 27 tornado. The shelves will be used in helping to create their new 'Hope Fridge Hallway,' a volunteer run indoor mutual aid space next to the existing 24/7/365 outdoor Hope Fridge and pantry.
