This week the sound of chainsaws resonates. Not because it is a pleasant sound — at 7am it decidedly is not — but because of what it means. It means a neighbor is out there clearing a tree off someone else's driveway before they even head to their own. It means someone's teenager is dragging branches to the curb for a family down the street they had never met before July 27th. It means food showing up on porches, generators getting passed around, people checking in on people just because they live nearby and that used to be enough of a reason. Menasha, Fox Crossing, Appleton and Neenah are still cleaning up. Some of our neighbors have a long road ahead — roofs, insurance, and in many cases a lot more than that. But if there is one thing this stretch has made clear, it is that this community knows how to show up for each other without being asked twice.
