It is with a mixture of heavy hearts and immense pride that we share an important update regarding the future of the Makaroff School of Ballet and the Makaroff Youth Ballet.
Since 1960, this community has been the stage for an incredible journey of artistry, discipline, and passion. As we prepare to close this chapter on June 6, 2026, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the generations of dancers and supporters who made this legacy possible.
Please read the full letter below regarding Jeanette’s retirement, the history of the school, and the exciting future we have all been working to build to ensure classical ballet continues to thrive in the Fox Valley – stay tuned for more developments, we will be keeping everyone updated soon!
As Ms. Makaroff steps into a well-earned retirement, she looks forward to enjoying time with family and friends and embracing a well-deserved pause. However, her heart remains with the dance world; she looks forward to remaining a vibrant part of our ballet community in new ways!
The impact that Nikolai, Juanita, and Jeanette Makaroff had will remain within us —an enduring gift of grace, discipline, and beauty that will dance in our community always.

Like a dancer who seems to float between notes of music, she has carried grace, discipline, and deep faith into every step—and it shows in the way she shines on and off the stage.

Annika, you have been a gift to this community and an inspiration to so many who have watched you grow. We love you and are so proud of you! 💛
