321 Appleton - Kiwanis Club of Appleton, WI Each month we do 3 hours of service, 2 hours of social and 1 hour for meeting. We are FUN! Jim was a member for over 55 years.

The Appleton Kiwanis club had its first meeting May 4, 1924 at the Conway Hotel and our first President was Joshua Johns. The Appleton Kiwanis club sponsorde many other local Kiwanis club charters including Fox Cities, Darboy, Grand Chute, Golden K, Xavier KeyClub. A long time member Jim Vosper recalls "... there was 190 members when I joined at the Conway Hotel and it was a men's only club then..

." Another long time member Carl Stracka recalls "... at my first meeting I sat between the Presidents of Fox Valley Tractor and Fox Valley Lutheran. They spoke of and decided to start a new hospital in Appleton..." Carl was a Pilot in WWI and went on the Honor flight in 2012 to Washington DC. He flew a B52 bomber over Austria and bombed the steel factory where his mother’s first cousin had just recently been promoted to a supervisor. His cousin tells him the story over wine about how years later when he was retired and digging in his garden he found what he thought was a rock which turned out to be a 500 lb bomb which was still active. His house which he lived in for most of his life was only 4 blocks from the factory, and he blamed Carl for the poorly placed bomb.
