Answers to questions asked from last night's meeting with RIPA Construction. In attendance were Lisa McKinney representing the Covington Park CDD and Jessica Monahan representing the Covington Park HOA.
Q: Will the students that walk to/from Eisenhower and East Bay be able to walk their usual route along Covington Garden? If not, has there been any communication between RIPA and HCPS to ensure that there is adequate transportation for the students? Has HCPS been informed?
A: Construction will only be on the inbound lane, covering the storm drain and the sidewalk. To protect students, the outbound lane will be closed to traffic and converted into a pedestrian only sidewalk for walkers/bikers.
Q: Is there a possibility that this could be postponed until after school lets out on May 29?
A: No
Q: Will there be detour signage at Covington Garden and Covington Stone to alert drivers that the road is closed ahead to avoid u-turns?
A: Yes
Q:Is there any guarantee that this will be done in 30 days or less?
A: No, however, they will attempt to speed up the construction by running double shifts. Unfortunately, this may negatively impact homes near the construction zone.
Q: Will there be a temporary four way stop at Covington stone along Dolby? What is being done to change or open lanes at Waterset to accept this additional traffic?
A: This question came in after the meeting but I will email the project manager and ask about the 4 way stop. We did request that the timing on the light at BB and Waterset (outbound in the AM and inbound in the PM) be extended to accommodate the additional flow of traffic and RIPA will attempt to get that done but there are no guarantees.
Q: Will they be compensating us all for the inconvenience? Seriously. This will make Covington Stone into the new arterial and greatly inconvenience everyone in the community as well as parts of Waterset. They should at least try to keep a lane open with flaggers to keep traffic moving while working on Covington Garden.
A: No
Additional information provided by RIPA: The permit for the East side of Covington Garden is expected sometime in May. Before the end of the year, we should all expect another closing of CG to demo the median, expand both sides to 2 lanes, add a 10' sidewalk to the east side and a 4-way signal at Surrey. Also, once the permits are approved, clearing of the cow field between CG and I75 will begin.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] and the question will be asked of RIPA Construction.
Thank you.
