Electric-assisted bicycles are playing an increasingly important role in North Carolina’s transportation system. As their use grows, so does the need for clear understanding of current regulations and how they impact safety, access, and future policy.

This session will provide an overview of existing laws, clarify key distinctions among electric motorized cycles, and explore how these regulations may shape transportation moving forward. This weekend, Fayetteville representatives on the Livable Study Tour went to Winterville, NC to the bicycle playground at Hillcrest Park and met with the Safe Routes to School coordinator. The Mayor was a volunteer helping youth learn to ride bicycles.
