Our Story
A Lotta Love Raleigh first got started in 2017 after learning about the great work that A Lotta Love has been doing all over Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill for the last three years. Lotta first began in the HomeStart shelter in Chapel Hill, NC. This facility is run by the Inter-Faith Council and is the only women and childrens shelter in Orange County. We knew we wanted to change lives for the better and saw the great work being done there with help from the community and companies of Chapel Hill. After meeting with Lotta, we decided to spread the LOVE to the downtown Raleigh area. When we began, we completed some rooms and outdoor space at the Raleigh Rescue Mission, and are currently still working with them to update all of their interior spaces and sleeping rooms. Their Children’s Center was redone in the Fall of 2019 through a partnership with A Lotta Love and Design for a For A Difference. We have also worked numerous times with Family Promise of Raleigh, the Helen Wright Center for Women, and the Women’s Center of Wake County. While necessities such as basic housing, meals and health services are met in many shelters, there are simply not any funds for furnishings beyond the basics, which are often very tattered, and rooms are bleak and depressing. This is where A Lotta Love Raleigh wants to make a difference. We want to help the people going through hard times reclaim their pride, while living in this temporary environment. With your help, we can breathe life and joyfulness into these sterile rooms and give them “a home away from home" by making them feel more dignified, safe, emotionally inspired, and encourage them to move forward. Our living space directly impacts our mood, energy, and motivation, and our goal is to inspire them to transform their lives.
