Starting off the 100th DPCA Nationals week with a brag!

From DPCN member and VP Karen Mundy:

Humbled . Blessed . Thankful and Over The Moon PROUD are all the emotions I am feeling. Today, Tessa was awarded Best In Sweepstakes at the 100th Anniversary DPCA is more than I could have ever dreamed of. Watching her show in person for the first time brought tears to my eyes. THANK YOU Dylan Kipp Keith for presenting her so beautifully. Thank you Kelly Marquis for finding my baby girl in such a huge and lovely entry of 97 gorgeous Doberman’s!

Today on the 25 anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, the DPCN would like to honor the first responders who went into danger without regard for their own safety that day. Many never made it out and many still live with the aftermath of their service.

We would also like to honor the search dogs and their handlers. Dogs live in the present, so when we ask a trained dog to go into danger, their answer is always yes.

Shirley Hammond and Sunny, her Doberman, from California Task Force 3 responded to the site and deployed for 11 days. Sunny was a 9 year old, live find dog who eventually found a fallen fire fighter who had perished. Sunny’s end of watch was in 2003 from cancer.

It is a somber occasion to think of the lives lost on that day, but also it is a challenge to live a life of service in the spirit of all the heroes who went selflessly into danger during and after the attacks.
