As a result of the current social climate, individuals who differ from the norm of cis-gendered white male struggle under the weight of knowing that the identities that comprise their being (race, gender, sexuality, religious affiliation, socioeconomic status, etc.) The Social Justice Sewing Academy (SJSA) acknowledges that in this, youth tend to be the most vulnerable, yet are simultaneously the
most susceptible to the erasure of their voices, their narratives, and their power. Through the unique combination of sewing, social justice and culturally relevant curriculum/activities, SJSA aims to create emboldened activists and empowered leaders that are committed to addressing issues impacting their local and often times, larger communities.
