On June 12th, Veterans and their spouses were welcomed to the Karl's Transport 14th Annual Clifford Hausmann Vietnam Veterans Memorial Picnic. It was once again another great turnout.
Jil.. of Karl's Transport kicked off the festivities by explaining how the Clifford Hausmann Vietnam Picnic came about.
A Roll Call ceremony was conducted to pay tribute to our fallen Langlade County men of the Vietnam War, followed by Taps.
Soon after a delicious buffet meal was served. Later gift cards, fishing poles and other things were ticket raffled off. The raffle prizes were donations from other organizations and generous families in support of veterans.
We commend Jil and Karl Schulz, along with their amazing staff for their selfless support and commitment to honor veterans. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The VFW Post 2653 is paying tribute to the 8 women (Nurses) that lost their lives in the Republic of Vietnam.
Today on 8 June, we recognize 1Lt. Sharon A. Lane, KIA, 57 years ago. Sharon was the only nurse actually killed by enemy fire, when a rocket hit her hospital.
The other nurses died (2) of illness, and (5) from either helicopter or fixed winged aircraft crashes. All made the ultimate sacrifices, while performing their duties. Their names forever engraved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, where their sacrifices continues to speak to all who visit.
NEVER FORGOTTEN! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

VFW Post 2653 and Auxiliary held a potluck dinner on the 2nd of June, at the Langlade County Senior Center. The VFW Auxiliary newly elected or appointed officers were installed, the Langlade County Veterans Service received a donation from the Auxiliary and later Molly Neufeld was presented her VFW $1000 Scholarship and Certificate of Recognition.
I want to remind our community that may not know... the VFW is no longer located on Elm St., due mainly because of expenses of keeping the building up and running. We rented a space at the American Legion for a year and a half, but then moved to the Langlade County Senior Center on Edison St. a year ago, as it was handicap accessible. We thank Kim McCann (Dir.) for taking us in. The building has met all our needs. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²
