Last week, we talked about something foundational; we are a part of Godâs family and He calls us "Child of God." Not just something we say, but something we are.
This week, we took the next step:
Because we are Godâs children⌠how do we live like it?
Across every grade, we focused on stewardship, using what God has given us wisely. Because being in Godâs family isnât just about belonging. Itâs about living it out.
Our Kâ3rd graders geared up in a big way. They made faith shields and stepped into the Armor of God, learning that the battles they face arenât just physical. Theyâre spiritual, too. We practiced what it looks like to âraise our shieldâ against lies, temptation, and fear by holding onto whatâs true about God.
Our 4thâ5th graders really lived out life in God's family... with a good old fashioned Family Game Night, where every game pointed back to how we live. In Connect 4, students saw that winning takes connection, and in life, we canât live the way God calls us to if weâre disconnected from Him. In Uno, they were reminded that when things donât go our way, how we respond reveals our character, and stewardship means choosing self-control and kindness in those moments. In Jenga, they saw how what we build our lives on matters. Ignore things like love, wisdom, and self-control, and it may look steady for a while, but eventually it falls. And in Operation, we talked about how everything changes under pressure. Itâs harder to do the right thing when life feels stressful, but God has given us His Spirit to help us, and even when we fail, we are forgiven and can respond differently next time.
This is exactly what Peter was getting at when he wrote that God has already given us everything we need for life and godliness. And itâs what Paul was pointing to when he described the Armor of God: God has already equipped us. Itâs not about trying harder or becoming someone new, itâs about growing into what God has already placed inside of us.
Our prayer is that what they experienced today doesnât stay in the classroom, but shows up in how they live this week.
