The Superior National plans to continue spring prescribed fire operations on the Tofte and Gunflint Ranger Districts.

Fire managers expect to implement the Kawishiwi Lakes unit on May 26 (1,911 acres), followed by the Sunfish prescribed fire (775 acres) planned on May 28 or 29, depending on conditions.

These burns reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and help keep communities safe.

Dorothy Mercer | Breaking Barriers

The next few weeks we will be sharing parts of a story written and researched by Carmen Przekwas. Please check out the link below for the full story!

Before the spotlight, there was determination.
Dorothy Mercer, once called the “fastest woman on snow", rose to prominence in a time when opportunities for women in sports were limited. She pushed past barriers in the 1950s and 60s, proving that passion and talent could speak louder than expectations.
Her story didn’t just change racing, it helped open doors for future generations of women in motorsports.
