Hey St. Paul! Your schools need some attention!

Our schools can be what we want them to be. But only if we work at it. Let's work together to support our schools.

Saint Paul Public Schools recently announced a plan to terminate educators mid-school year. This plan was decided weeks ago, in secret. That is unacceptable. Tell district leaders to delay any vote until multiple community engagement sessions have occurred.

What is Minnesota’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Special Education, and why should families care?

It’s a group the state brought together to study special education and recommend changes to the governor and lawmakers. Members include school leaders, legislators, educators, and advocates for students with disabilities.

The legislature gave them a difficult assignment: find ways to improve special education while reducing state aid by $250 million every two years, starting in July 2027.

Their first recommendation? Reverse the cuts.

Every member agreed that these funding reductions would harm students, schools, and communities.

The commission also recommended reducing paperwork, addressing staffing shortages, and helping children get support earlier.

The commission makes recommendations. Lawmakers decide what happens next.

Before you vote, ask your candidates for the Minnesota House and Senate: Will you support reversing the $250 million in special education cuts and making sure schools have the resources to meet students’ needs?

Our kids deserve clear answers from the people asking to represent us. And they deserve the support they need to learn and thrive.

What do we want our public schools to be like?

That is a more difficult question to answer than you might think, even for people who have spent a lot of time thinking about our schools.

Most of the time, we look at public education through a lens of scarcity. What are we losing? What are we cutting? What can we afford? We rarely get the chance to step outside of those limits and talk about what we actually want our schools to be.

What is the purpose of public school?
How much technology should be part of a child’s day?
How should a child feel when they walk into school?
When do children stop needing play?
Is what we are asking of kids developmentally appropriate?
Are our policies built around what is actually best for children and families?

At this workshop, we are going to make space for those questions.

We will open our minds, use our imaginations, listen to one another, and work together to imagine our north star for public schools.

Supporting public schools is as American as apple pie.

Universal public education is one of America’s greatest contributions to the world. It reflects a powerful promise: every child, no matter where they come from or how much money their family has, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a better future.

Defending public schools means defending one of America’s greatest traditions.

As Congress negotiates the federal budget, Minnesota's congressional delegation must hear directly from us.

Federal funding plays a critical role in supporting schools across Minnesota, especially in rural and under-resourced communities. These funds help provide:

*Special education services for students with diverse needs
*Academic support and tutoring for struggling learners
*Career and technical education programs that prepare students for real jobs
*Resources for schools serving low-income families

The Trump administration has threatened to cut $86 million, over 17 percent of the total budget, from Minnesota schools. If this budget passes, our schools will have to:

*Cut teachers and staff, making class sizes larger
*Eliminate essential programs for rural schools, English language learners, and afterschool
*Increase the burden on already stretched local taxpayers
*School closures and consolidations
