This is my ambitious garden goal for the year! ๐ฑ
After Memorial Day weekend, ๐โ๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐ ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐ญ ๐๐:๐๐ ๐๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ to give myself a little extra time to tend to it. This is my first attempt at a garden this size, roughly 28 x 23 feet, and it has truly been a labor of love.
Last year, I tore out old raised beds that were falling apart and replanted the bulbs around the perimeter of what will become the vegetable garden space. I did my best leveling the soil, pulling weeds and grass, and covering the remaining areas with cardboard to naturally suppress growth. As the grass and weeds decompose, they help return nutrients back into the soil.
This spring, I removed any weeds that pushed through the cardboard, loosened the soil with a garden fork, and added a mixture of compost, chicken manure, and dirt to create the garden rows. Between the rows wood chips were laid over the cardboard. This will help retain moisture and keep weeds down naturally.
Itโs been a lot of work, a lot of learning, and a little bit of trial and error โ but also incredibly rewarding. Iโm excited to see what grows. ๐ฟ๐
