Before abuse can be stopped, it must be reported.

At the Calhoun Cleburne Children’s Center, we believe protecting children is a shared responsibility. In Alabama, certain professionals are legally required to report suspected child abuse or neglect, but anyone can make a report when they have concerns for a child’s safety.

• Who Must Report?
Learn which professionals are mandated reporters under Alabama law.

• When Should a Report Be Made?
When there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect.

• How Do You Report?
Know the steps to help connect children and families with support and protection.

• Why It Matters
Reporting concerns can be the first step in keeping a child safe.

Swipe through our flyer to learn more about mandated reporting in Alabama and how you can help protect children in our community. This flyer can be dispersed, printed, and shared to help guide helping professionals, child-serving professionals, and those interested in the fields! 💙

We were honored to welcome Katherine Robertson, Chief Counsel for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, to the Calhoun Cleburne Children’s Center for a facility tour and discussion about the important work being done to protect Alabama’s children earlier today.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office serves as the state’s chief legal and law enforcement office, providing legal counsel to state agencies, prosecuting major crimes, defending state laws, and leading efforts to combat crimes that impact vulnerable populations. Their commitment to protecting children and pursuing justice is evident through their work across our state.

Our staff have benefited greatly from specialized trainings provided by members of the Attorney General’s Office on topics such as child abuse, child sexual exploitation, human trafficking, child po*******hy investigations, and other issues affecting the safety and well-being of youth. These trainings have strengthened our ability to serve children and families while enhancing multidisciplinary collaboration throughout the child protection system.

During her visit, Katherine toured our facility, learned more about our services and mission, and engaged in meaningful conversations about the challenges and trends impacting youth in our communities. We appreciated the opportunity to share the work of our Child Advocacy Center, discuss the needs of the children and families we serve, and highlight the importance of continued advocacy at both the local and state levels.

The Attorney General’s Office is not only an invaluable partner and resource for professionals working in child protection—it is also a critical source of support for children and families seeking justice and healing. We are grateful for Katherine’s time, leadership, and dedication to protecting Alabama’s youth and look forward to continued collaboration in our shared mission of serving and advocating for children.

Thank you, Katherine, for visiting our center and for your commitment to making a difference in the lives of Alabama’s children and families. 💙

Check out these pictures from this year’s Candlelight Vigil that we cohosted with CASA of the Cheaha Region. We are so appreciative of the community’s support, and we will continue to stand strong in our mission to reduce trauma that children and families experience as a result of child abuse and the investigative process. Thank you, all, for all your support, donations, and opportunities to provide education on who we are, what we do, and prevention education on child abuse. 💙
