April is NATIONAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH. Thank you to the volunteers of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, as they help to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays for future generations. Lela’s Legacy is forever indebted to the individuals, churches, and organizations that have supported us for the last 8 years. Please know that no deed or financial contribution goes unnoticed and we are very grateful for people who devote their time and talents to bring a positive change in their community to advance the fight against cancer. I am often disheartened because I feel people should do more to support Relay For Life, but then I have to remember that everyone hasn’t been personally affected by this dreadful disease. Although I lost 2 grandparents and an aunt to cancer, it wasn’t REAL to me until my mother was diagnosed. It was at that moment that I realized that cancer STEALS, KILLS, AND DESTROYS lives and I made a vow to do everything in my power to join the fight against it. Because of cancer, my son will never get to know what loving and kind person his grandmother was. Because of cancer, my father’s voice will never be the same and he will forever have scars from radiation therapy. Because of cancer, a dear friend will never work as a nurse again after losing her sight due to side effects of a trial medication for breast cancer. Because of cancer, OUR LIVES will NEVER be the same.
