Last Friday, Julie stood in front of a room full of women at the Womens Health Summit and told them she was throwing herself a birthday parade.

The crowd cheered.

Of course they did.

Because somewhere in that room, every single person had a moment where they thought am I allowed to want more joy than this? And Julie just answered that question from the stage.

Joy isn't something you earn after the hard stuff is over. It belongs right now, in the middle of it. Even when — especially when — it feels ridiculous to ask for.
