One of the things we love most about “Portraits from Annapolis” is that no two artists approached portraiture the same way.

Each brought their own style, perspective, and voice, creating a collection that reflects the creativity and diversity of our city.

Our overall mission is about celebrating and supporting the creative community that makes this city what it is all year long.

A huge thank you to Parris Underground, our Live Music Sponsor for Gallery Walk and the Bounce! Art Party.

Founded by Laura MacKay in honor of the late Jeni Parris Brady, Parris Underground is an all-ages, alcohol-free music venue and community space in Severna Park dedicated to bringing people together through music.

Their support helped fill Gallery Walk with live performances, added energy to Bounce!, and created even more opportunities for people to connect through the arts.

In this video, Laura shares the story behind Parris Underground and the vision that continues to inspire the space today.

Our feet hurt. Our camera rolls are full. Some of us are still finding glitter in places glitter should never be. And we’re pretty sure a few artists are planning a long nap.

But before we officially close the book on Annapolis Arts Week 2026, we want to say thank you.

Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for sharing your talents.
Thank you for supporting local artists.
Thank you for believing that the arts matter.

Thank you for making this year’s Annapolis Arts Week bigger, brighter, and more meaningful than we could have imagined.

Today we’re highlighting Dan Brown, founder of , one of this year’s Annapolis Arts Week sponsors.

Reflex Improv brings people together through live improvisational theater, classes, and workshops that prove creativity, connection, and laughter are skills anyone can develop.

Q: Do you have to be “funny” to do improv, or is that a myth?

“I think just about everyone is funny and improv can uncover that hidden skill. I’ve had more than a few students come into the first class and say ‘I’m not funny’ and they turn out to be one of our funniest players. One of the biggest myths is that you have to be outgoing with big bold characters. Some of our best and funniest improvisers are introverts.”

Q: What does “yes, and” actually mean beyond the stage?

“’Yes, and’ really means, ‘I’ve heard you and I’m going to honor what you’ve said by agreeing with it, and then adding my own piece, and I’m trusting that you will do the same back.’ It’s a very effective communication tool because it requires listening and empathy.”

Q: Why do you think improv belongs in a creative community like Annapolis?

“It literally creates community. It breaks down barriers. It’s also much easier for people to work together after they have laughed together.”

At its heart, improv is about more than comedy. It’s about listening, trust, collaboration, and creating something together in real time.
