Naval Academy Primary & Secondary

Naval Academy Primary & Secondary The NAPS mission is to promote the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of children from the Annapolis area.

NAPS provides a structured and nurturing environment that identifies and responds to the unique needs of our students. We are an AIMS accredited independent school offering 3's Preschool through 8th Grade. We welcome parents and their children to join our community and start their educational journey with NAPS. NAPS welcomes all families to apply. You do not need to be a military family to attend

NAPS. Enrollment is based on availability and our admissions categories, which prioritize active-duty military families; families of USNA employees; families whose parents are employed by the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security; and families of retired military personnel. However, we have many Annapolis-area families with no connection to the military or the federal government. The Naval Academy Primary & Secondary school's mission is to focus on the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of children from Annapolis and the surrounding communities. NAPS provides a structured and nurturing environment that recognizes and acts upon the unique needs and circumstances of your child. Our faculty and staff, some of whom are military spouses and parents, are skilled at supporting your child’s transition to our school, our community and new friends. The overall mission is to provide a nurturing, yet structured environment where all of our students can develop to their fullest potential and develop a solid foundation to be successful in middle school, high school, and beyond. NAPS provides a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that facilitates our children's abilities to grow and mature intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. NAPS' small classroom sizes allow for all teachers to work with individual learning styles, adjust to the strengths and weaknesses of each child, to encourage children to feel safe and comfortable, and to question and share ideas. The NAPS faculty is a team of educated professionals who are enthusiastic about guiding students to become lifelong learners. NAPS has a strong academic curriculum that is enhanced by a series of special classes, including, but not limited to Art, Technology, French, Library, Music, Physical Education, Mindfulness, and Phonemic Awareness. There is a strong emphasis on the integration of technology into the academic curriculum. A team of resource educators are also on staff for students requiring additional academic support. Teachers provide opportunities for students to develop responsible citizenship and to build self-esteem and leadership skills. NAPS engages parents as partners in their children's educational experience, offering opportunities for them to volunteer in the classroom, on field trips, with fundraising activities, the hot lunch program, and in coordinating community engagement events. The NAPS Board of Trustees consists of parent volunteers and interested individuals in the sustainability of the school working closely with the Head of School, the faculty, staff, and parents to ensure that the school is fiscally sound and that the physical plant is safe, clean, and habitable. We strive to provide a comprehensive program that equips our children to leave NAPS well prepared for their next school and community and with a solid foundation as responsible global citizens.

Last week, a group of 7th grade NAPSters delivered 8 handmade knit newborn hats to the Auxiliary Office at Luminis Anne Arundel Medical Center. Our 7th-grade students voted unanimously to knit hats as a service-learning initiative. With lessons and guidance from Ms. Olin, Mrs. Houfek and Mrs. Sumner, students dedicated Advisory periods, school time, and even travel time on their field trip bus rides to master the craft. The project concluded with this delivery where they also received mentorship from long-standing volunteers and practiced active community citizenship. ⚓🧶✨

Our 7th-grade students recently hosted CMSgt Rob Watkins, an Air Force PJ who led the tactical underground rescue efforts for the Thai Wild Boars soccer team in 2018. Stationed in Okinawa when the call came in, CMSgt Watkins and his elite team were pivotal in successfully saving all 13 trapped lives. Thank you, Chief Watkins, for sharing this inspiring masterclass in leadership, bravery, and resilience with NAPS! ⚓

🏆 We rolled out the red carpet for our inaugural Preschool ABC Oscars! Students and staff donned elaborate costumes and sequins to introduce their designated letters. Representing everything from a butterfly, to a hockey player, to a gumball machine, a fairy, a queen, an explorer and more, our 3s NAPSters delivered five-star performances. This event provided a perfect celebration of foundational literacy for our youngest learners. ⚓

Tomorrow marks our final charitable dress down day of the school year, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society in observance of National Cancer Research Month. This specific organization was recommended by Mrs. Smith and Ms. Awadis. Mr. Awadis shared a powerful story of resilience about her 50-year-old cousin-in-law. Following a Stage 4 gastroesophageal cancer diagnosis in January 2025, his family faced a critical period where his survival was uncertain. Through the unwavering support of family, friends, and prayer, he persevered and continues to grow stronger every day. We are honored to dress down in support of life-saving research and celebrate the strength of our extended community. ⚓
