Everything started with a sailing coach struggling to find sailing material and gear to teach a fisherman kid from Colombia how to sail. Martin Manrique, Make Them Sailors’ co-founder, shared a simple video https://bit.ly/3t73H9Q to ask his friends to give a second life to their garage-stored sailing gear and was instantly shocked by the response of the sailing community after receiving materials from all over. As a result, he co-founded MTS with the purpose of advancing and supporting the creation of community based sailing schools. MTS currently supports three inclusive sailing schools: in the Bahamas (Eleuthera Sailing Academy), Argentina (Capitanes de Barrio) and Uruguay (Viento en Popa). These schools provide kids from vulnerable communities with the opportunity to sail in order to reach their potentials by fostering personal development, environmental education and to create new job opportunities for them in the sailing industry. MTS has a strong focus on environmental impact through a twofold strategy:

-“RE-SAIL”: Our community based sailing schools are set up and promoted by reusing boats and sailing gear to prolong their lifetime (second-life boats, collection campaigns of used sailing gear, repair workshops)
-“ENVIRONMENTAL CAPTAINS”: our sailing programs include local environmental education to empower our sailors as champions by protecting the waters they sail on. MTS has a strong focus on environmental impact through a twofold strategy:

The world nowadays is so connected and it is so easy to help. Send us your old stuff and we will make sure it will get to the kids of the islands or simply donate a few dollars so we can buy the boat from that grumpy fisherman. One of the main things we show Juan Pablo is that in between sailors you always help each other, so we count on you!

One week ago, we shared a coaching opportunity at a small sailing center in the Galápagos Islands.

Less than 5 days later, we had received 25+ applications.

A small sailing school on an island in Ecuador was struggling to find an instructor. All they needed was visibility, a network, and a community willing to help.

Sometimes that's all it takes to turn a challenge into someone's next adventure.

At Make Them Sailors, we believe sailing grows stronger when we connect people who need support with people who want to give it.

Changing lives through sailing. Together.

What if your next coaching job was in the Galápagos Islands?

Spend three months coaching sailing in one of the most extraordinary places on Earth. Live surrounded by crystal-clear water and incredible wildlife while helping grow a community sailing program that creates opportunities for local kids.

The Galápagos Yacht Club is looking for a paid Sailing Instructor in Puerto Ayora.

This is more than a coaching job. It's a chance to:
• Live in the Galápagos for 3 months
• Make a real impact through sailing
• Improve your Spanish through full immersion
• Gain international coaching experience
• Explore the islands with discounted tours and diving

If you have dinghy sailing experience, enjoy coaching young sailors, and are ready for an adventure with purpose, we'd love to hear from you.

Send us your CV and motivation letter, or tag someone who should see this!

Make Them Wingfoilers!

In a small town in the mountains of Argentina, Todo Viento, a community windsurf school, is helping local kids discover watersports, build confidence, and develop valuable life skills.

Now they've launched a wingfoil program—but they need your help.

Accessible youth wingfoil programs are rare, and your support can make a real difference. Donate gear such as wings, boards, foils, and sails, or contribute through our fundraising campaign.

Let's get these kids flying!

Abu made it to Morocco!!

Thanks to everyone who donated, shared, and supported this campaign, Abubakhar is now representing Tanzania at the Optimist World Championship.

You made this possible, you just changed a life. Because talent is everywhere. What's missing is access.

Thank you for helping break down barriers and create opportunities.

Let's keep Making Them Sailors 🚀💙

NO PAYNE, NO GAIN!
This week, the world rallied behind Tim Payne, a football player from New Zealand.
Like many athletes, Tim works hard and gives everything for his sport. The difference? Someone gave him visibility.
In just a few days, he went from 4,700 Instagram followers to nearly 5 million and became an internet sensation.
It's a story about visibility, opportunity, and the power of community.
Today, we'd like to introduce you to Abu.
At just 13 years old, Abubakhar Mpondi from Tanzania has qualified for the 2026 Optimist World Championship in Morocco. He has represented his country internationally, ranked among Africa's top sailors, and captained the Tanzanian National Team.
e earned his place. Now he needs help getting there.
Every donation helps cover flights, accommodation, entry fees, equipment, and training for his journey to Morocco.
If visibility can change one athlete's life, imagine what opportunity can do for another.
Let's make sure qualification becomes participation.
Help Abu sail for Tanzania. Help us Make Them Sailors.
