This is the part people don’t always see.
The hours spent researching therapies.
The paperwork after the kids are finally asleep.
The emails to schools, providers, therapists, support coordinators, doctors, paeds, the NDIS.
The mental load of remembering every appointment, every report, every trigger, every strategy, every tiny detail that might matter.

And underneath all of that?
A mum who just wants to be present with her child.
Not always scanning.
Not always preparing.
Not always proving.
Not always fighting.

This is why so many special needs mums aren’t just tired.
Their nervous system has been living in constant vigilance for years.
And when your body has been running on survival for that long, rest doesn’t feel restful.

This is the work we do inside the Anchored Mum Project.
We repair the baseline.
We teach your body how to come out of fight, flight, freeze and shutdown.
We build small, realistic tools into the life you already have.
So you can stop feeling like every day is another emergency your body has to survive.

Thank you to Ricki Sabia, Brooke Levey, Kristi Maeng, Liz Zogby and especially Steve, Helen, and JoJo for providing a face to the problem of early identification of students as young as 4 years old for the alternate assessment. A change to MD's regulations is being proposed to prohibit this identification prior to the 3rd grade. It's been one of MDAC's highest priorities since we got re-started in 2021. Let's keep going!!

We had an amazing time at the Down Syndrome Association of Maryland event! So many families were able to attend. Lots of fun splashing around, meeting new friends, as well as crowdsourcing and advocacy with parents and members of DSAMD. Let's do it again soon! 🤩
