The mission of the Maryland Estonia Exchange Council (MEEC) is to advance

the friendship of Maryland and Estonia by providing opportunities that enhance

cultural exchanges and strengthen economic, educational, medical, and

political/security links. The purpose of MEEC is to establish and coordinate agreements of

international cooperation between the towns, cities, counties and

governments of Estonia and Maryland that implement and enhance

the above mentioned links.

According to this year’s Henley Passport Index, the Estonian passport grants visa-free access to 183 countries, making it the sixth most powerful passport in the world; Estonian citizens can travel visa-free to more countries than either Britons or Americans.

According to the 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, Estonia has officially been crowned the friendliest country in Europe, beating heavyweights like Ireland and Portugal!
Why Estonia? This small Baltic nation is known for its storybook forests, wild beaches, lakeside saunas, and a warm, welcoming energy.
Its capital, Tallinn, is a pastel-painted UNESCO World Heritage site, full of cobbled lanes, medieval walls, and hidden courtyards. By day, it feels like a fairytale — and by night, Tallinn comes alive with live music bars, taprooms, and speakeasy-style craft beer spots.

Võidupüha, or Victory Day, is celebrated on June 23rd in Estonia, marking a pivotal moment in the nations history. This day commemorates the victory of the Estonian forces over the German troops
during the War of Independence in 1919.
The significance of Võidupüha extends beyond mere remembrance; it symbolizes the resilience and
determination of the Estonian people in their pursuit of freedom and sovereignty. The MDNG officers were also present in the parade.

Annapolis is a Sister City to Tallinn, Estonia. Today Annapolis is celebrating May Day and it is truly magical. Every year, on May 1st, our beautiful city is transformed with colorful arrangements of blossoms and blooms. Containers full of fresh-cut flowers are thoughtfully placed in front of businesses and homes as part of the annual May basket competition. This annual beautification of our city, sponsored by the Garden Club of Old Annapolis Towne, has been an Annapolis tradition since 1956.
