Orbiaโ€™s Polymer Solutions business Alphagary is a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialty polymer compounds and additives for polyvinyl chloride formulations including stabilizers, plasticizers and colorants. Last week, our IWCS Technical Symposium Committee had the pleasure of visiting the MINTS (Multi-Scale Integrated Intelligent Interactive Sensing) Lab at The University of Texas at Dallas and Data Center OpenLab at Richardson IQ. These state-of-the-art facilities test and evaluate optical sensors and transport, packet transport, and 5G solutions. Using equipment on loan from corporate supporters, these research centers aid innovation and train the next-generation of telecom and network engineers.

Thank you Andrea Fumagalli and David J. Lary for introducing our team to the spectacular work taking place at your progressive labs. And thank you to IWCS Board Member Rashmi Varma for organizing these visits while our team met in the City of Richardson Texas.

To kick off our Symposium Committee workshop, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Mayor of the City of Richardson Texas, Mayor Amir Omar. During this Welcome Proclamation, we learned how Richardson is playing an important role in shaping the technologies that power modern connectivity and technical innovation.

Sounds familiar, right? Yes! This innovative spirit aligns closely with IWCS's mission of exchanging information about product, material and process innovation for cabling and connectivity solutions.

Attend our webinar this Friday to learn about thermal testing for fiber optic cables. Devin Whalen, product engineer at Proterial Cable America, will introduce the process of using finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate dry loose-tube cable designs under temperature load. Reliable fiber cables must endure temperature cycling without significant signal loss. During manufacturing, installation, and long-term operation, these cables are subjected to a variety of environmental conditions. Temperature fluctuations can induce stress and strain, particularly in loose-tube design where the fiber is free to move. Attend the webinar to learn more.
