With profound sorrow, we salute the life of Ray Zirkle. Ray was a tremendous champion of our wire & cable community and always found meaningful ways to bring everyone in our industry together, both professionally and personally. Ray was a critical piece to the success of many wire & cable initiatives and organizations, including the Wire Association, Wire & Cable Technology International, Wire and Cable Manufacturerโ€™s Alliance (WCMA), Wire and Cable Industry Suppliers Association (WCISA), Wire & Cable Clubs, and the Wire & Cable Focus conference and expo. With co-founders Ed Fenton and Dick Callahan, Zirkle established Wire & Cable Focus in 1991, for the copper, electrical, and electronic cable industry. Known as the โ€œFocusโ€ event, it was merged with IWCS in 1999.

IWCS greatly appreciates and benefited from the contributions of Ray, along with his son, Doug Zirkle, to our successes together. Our sympathy and love goes out to the Zirkle family.

Attend our webinar this Friday to learn about specifying core geometry in multicore optical fibers. Dr. Alan McCurdy, distinguished member of technical staff at Lightera will introduce an alternative method from the common approach, which uses the core radial position (relative to the cladding center) and the pitch between core pairs. Dr. McCurdy will explain the process of using an optimized alignment of the manufactured MCF against a โ€œmasterโ€ template of the MCF design core positions. Nabaltec is a manufacturer of environmentally friendly, flame-retardant fillers and special oxides. These highly specialized products have been developed using aluminum hydroxide and aluminum oxide as a basis, and they are sold primarily for two market segments, namely โ€œFunctional Fillersโ€ and โ€œSpecialty Aluminaโ€. To provide one example, flame-retardant fillers are used in cables and electronic devices. In case of fire they can delay its spread and suppress the development of environmentally harmful and unhealthy smokes and fumes.
