What is the Beacon Light Fund (BLF)? The BLF offers small financial assistance to individuals living with AIDS or disabling HIV disease. Those individuals who benefiting from BLF monies are men, women and children of all ethnic groups and sexual orientation. Any individual living within the New York City/New Jersey Metropolitan Area (includes the state of New Jersey, the five boroughs of New York city and twenty-five miles of eastern Pennsylvania) and has a combined monthly income of $1200 or less may qualify for financial assistance from the BLF. Typically, these individuals rely on county, state or federal assistance for support and are the types of individuals we want to help. Individuals can apply for financial assistance from the BLF for reasons as follows, but not limited to:
• Rent
• Utility and phone bills
• Special medical equipment and supplies
• Some home care services
• Other expenses deemed necessary
Applications for assistance can be made either by the afflicted person, a social or hospital worker, or a person with durable power of attorney. Once eligibility is established, we make every effort to provide financial assistance as quickly as possible. All inquiries and grants are strictly confidential. Who Administers the Fund? MGNJA, Inc., a volunteer-driven, non-profit, non-political and tax-exempt organization, administers the BLF. We rely solely on the generous support of community individuals and businesses. Our funding is derived from donations and fund-raising events. The amount of money we can offer is driven by the amount of money we raise. How are Monies Distributed? Our clients are NOT given any monies directly. Once approved, the monies are paid directly to the service providers.
