In one week, on Wednesday, October 14, at 6:00 pm, join us at the A2AC for our Artist Talk with Christopher Fennell, who will share insights into transforming discarded and found objects into dynamic, large-scale sculptures, and discuss the fabrication process behind his latest installation created for Ann Arbor's new Fire Station 4, "Three Ladder Fire."

Using decommissioned ladders from the City of Ann Arbor Fire Department, the 24-foot-tall sculpture twists retired equipment into a sculpted flame, honoring both the history of the fire service and the building's status as Michigan's first Net-Zero fire station. Installation is scheduled to begin mid-October, ahead of the official grand opening ceremony for Fire Station No. 4 on Oct. 30 at 1 pm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Drawing on his background in engineering and his vision as an artist, Fennell combines structural ingenuity with humor to create work that challenges viewers to look beyond familiar forms and consider how everything is connected. His site-specific sculptures often invite people to move through and around them, using landscape, architecture, and regional references to create moments of discovery.

Thanks to everyone who collaged and sampled three seasonal cocktails with us at the inaugural Creative Pours event with Mammoth Distilling in the A2AC Gallery. Phil from Mammoth was a great host, as he talked attendees through the making and mixing behind an Orchard Old Fashioned, La Prune, and the delicious Calm as a Cucumber gin drink. Urban-Fetti, our first Art in Public Alley installation, has been given a glow-up by Ann Arbor artist Robin Speth. Our AiP team is putting a renewed focus on maintenance as this award-winning program moves forward with over 50 projects under its belt, and the LAA Office's beloved mural installation was due for a touch-up. Stay tuned for updated lighting coming in December. In the meantime, stop by and take a look the next time you're at the Alley Bar or out and about on the last weekend of Main Street Area Ann Arbor's closed-off Summer Streets.

Robin Speth is an Ann Arbor-based artist and designer with a BFA in Product Design from Detroit’s College for Creative Studies. Inspired by the joy of exploration, Speth creates work that moves between the physical and the imagined, gradually uncovering forms and subjects through the process of making and inviting viewers to find connections to their own experiences.
