Comic Opera Guild

Comic Opera Guild We are the most active promoters of light opera, performing and recording comic opera with a focus o

Founded by performers in the Ann Arbor area more than 40 years ago, our organization's main goal is promoting interest in light or comic opera. We perform our own English versions of European shows (translations available for rent) and host an annual vocal competition to award proceeds to singers who are able to sing light opera. Our unique combination of professional and amateur talent permits touring complete productions and producing works that other companies cannot attempt.

John Philip Sousa’s THE BRIDE ELECT was premiered 123 years ago in Detroit, and made quite a splash. Here’s some of what the Detroit Free press had to say:

“Probably no American composer occupies the place in the hearts of the people held by Sousa....”

"Ah Papagallo, You are in a Scrape," thrills along the nerves and accelerates the blood…”

“The “Snow Baby” …is touching and plaintive, melodiously beautiful and exquisitely phrased.”

“The most stimulating incident of the performance, however, was the march "Unchain the Dogs of War"
