Gimli’s little hoof has been hurting for the last two weeks. An agricultural vet visited him two weeks ago and believed a hoof trim might help, but our little guy has been limping even more. We were told he might need to be put down when he get’s bigger, but Gimli hasn’t even had an x-ray or true examination. We spoke with MSU Veterinary Hospital and he’s scheduled to see the vets next week. So far, they have shared the following costs:

Exam fee: $150
First x-ray series (3 images of the same area: $450
Every series thereafter: $150 each

Farm Bill provisions containing “Save Our Bacon Act” language may sound harmless. They are not. 🚨

Behind the name is an effort to protect some of the cruelest systems in animal agriculture from state animal welfare laws.

At its heart, this is a simple moral question:

Do animals deserve even the most basic protections from extreme suffering?

When states pass laws against extreme confinement, they are saying no animal should be forced to spend her life in a cage or crate so small she cannot turn around, stretch, or move naturally.

The Save Our Bacon Act threatens that progress.

It asks us to accept that industry convenience matters more than an animal’s suffering.

You do not have to be vegan to oppose this. You only have to believe that cruelty should not be protected by law.

Please contact your senators and representatives and ask them to oppose the Save Our Bacon Act, any Farm Bill containing Save Our Bacon Act language, and any bill that weakens state animal welfare protections.

You can find your senators here:
www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm

You can find your representative here:
www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Simple message to send:

“Please oppose the Save Our Bacon Act and any effort to weaken state animal welfare laws. States and voters should have the right to reject extreme confinement and protect animals from unnecessary suffering.”

For the past few weeks, we’ve been so fortunate to have an incredible volunteer, Mark, with us at our care center in Gokarna. He has been getting our dogs out on walks and giving them the exercise, enrichment, and one-on-one attention they love most. He has truly put his whole heart into his time with us.

To make his time with us even more meaningful, Mark also created a fundraiser for Magic Marble Foundation. The volunteers who have found their way to us have been truly remarkable people - and Mark is no exception.

Thank you, Mark, for your compassion, your time, and for going the extra mile for our dogs and our mission.

If you would like to honor Mark’s kindness and help fuel our work, please consider donating to his fundraiser and sharing it with others. Every contribution helps us continue caring for the ones who depend on us.

Thank you, Patrick McAndrew 🩵 The crate is wonderful 🙌🏾

And thank you to everyone who donates a dog crate, blankets, rice, medical supplies, supplements, toys, or time as a volunteer. Your kindness directly touches real, living beings in very tangible ways.

This is Browney. She was hit by a car at just two months old. Today, she is recovering from orthopedic surgery — hopefully her first and only 🤞🏽
For now, she needs strict cage rest so her little body can heal properly. This large crate will help keep her clean, safe, and comfortable during recovery, and it truly makes a difference in her outcome.

Today is the last day to donate to Magic Marble Foundation in 2025.
If you’ve been meaning to help — whether by donating supplies, signing up to volunteer, or making a contribution — today is a meaningful moment to do so.

Every act of support helps animals like Browney receive the care, dignity, and chance they deserve. We’re deeply grateful for this community. 🩵

There are moments when progress is measured not by what we gain, but by what we refuse to trade.

Take action and voice your concerns directly to the officials below.

The use of living beings in political exchanges asks us to confront difficult questions about power, stewardship, and responsibility.

Two young elephants, Rudrakali and Khagendra Prasad, are being sent from Nepal to Qatar as part of a diplomatic gesture. But elephants are not symbols, assets, or offerings. They are conscious beings—capable of memory, grief, loyalty, and deep social bonds—whose lives are shaped by the land, climate, and relationships they know.

Removed from the forests of Chitwan, where generations before them learned the rhythms of a humid landscape, these elephants will be asked to adapt to an environment wholly unfamiliar to their nature. Such transitions are not neutral acts. They leave marks—on lives that cannot consent.

How a society treats its most vulnerable beings reflects its deepest values. Diplomacy without compassion is not progress.

If we are to move forward, it must be toward a world where reverence replaces ownership, and where wild beings are allowed to remain rooted in the places that shaped them—not displaced to serve human ambition.

Nepal will send two juvenile elephants, Rudrakali and Khagendra Prasad, to Qatar. As political gifts.
It's hard to imagine that sentient beings who feel, love, and connect just as deeply as we do are shipped in crates to a desert country that is not a natural range state for either African or Asian elephants.
Rudrakali and Khagendra Prasad are used to the humid subtropical monsoon climate of Chitwan National Park, where in winter temperatures drop to 5°C to 8°C. In terms of food, habitat and management the elephants will be forced to make a near impossible adjustment at the Al Khor Family Park & Zoo.
Elephants are not commodities. Let's move to a future where these majestic mammals are respected rather than exploited.
