Today is World Homeless Day.

Today, we’re recognizing the shelters and organizations across our community working every day to support people experiencing homelessness.

While each organization may serve people in different ways, we share the same goal: helping our neighbors find safety, stability, and a place to call home.

We’re grateful to the shelters, service providers, volunteers, staff, and community partners who show up every day to help make that possible. ❤️

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

For many survivors, finding safety also means finding a safe and stable place to call home.

At the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, we know that homelessness is rarely caused by one thing. Circumstances like domestic violence, rising housing costs, health challenges, job loss and other crises can all contribute to housing instability.

This month, we recognize survivors, honor their resilience, and reaffirm the importance of safe housing and supportive services for everyone in our community.

After working with SAWC’s Shelter Diversion team, “S” was able to secure housing and begin a new chapter. What started with a temporary sleeping arrangement eventually became a home of her own, and with support from community partners, her new space was furnished and ready for her next steps.

S.’s journey is a reminder that when people have the right support, resources and opportunities, meaningful change is possible. At SAWC, we’re proud to walk alongside people as they work toward stability and housing.

Ending homelessness takes more than a bed for the night.

At the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, we provide shelter, support and pathways to housing.

🥫 **FREE FOOD PANTRY THIS WEDNESDAY**

We’re helping spread the word about a Food Gatherers food pantry happening this Wednesday, September 16, in Ann Arbor.

Community members can stop by for free food and personal care items, including **meat, fresh produce, shelf-stable foods, and other items as available.

A big thank-you to New Hope Baptist Church in Ann Arbor for visiting the Delonis Center and for their continued support of our community! 💙

This group will be serving homemade soup at their church this winter on the 4th Sunday of each month from 1:00–2:30 PM, with December taking place on the 3rd Sunday.

We’re grateful for community partners like New Hope Baptist Church who continue to show up and support our neighbors. 🥣

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

We remember the lives lost to overdose and stand with the families, friends, and communities who continue to feel those losses. We also recognize the importance of compassion, support, and access to resources for those affected by substance use and overdose.

Safe, stable housing and a supportive community can make a meaningful difference. 🏠💜
