A BEAUTIFUL FIRST! 💙💛
UNWLA Branch 142 + Branch 50 Meet & Greet in Ann Arbor — September 20, 2026
13 members from Branch 142 and 13 members from Branch 50 came together for our very first joint meeting!

We started with an exquisite, purely Ukrainian-style lunch spread — incredible tortes, desserts, pies, and fruits. Enough to feast like queens!

Afterward, Branch 50 went through their meeting agenda, and Branch 142 performed an entertaining skit of Mnohaya Lita with more joyful Ukrainian songs.

So wonderful to unite two branches in friendship and tradition. Mnohaya Lita to many more meetings together!

Another note from Branch 50 to 142:
Hello Branch 50 Members and Friends and Ira Khomchak, President of Branch 142,
Thank you all for a wonderful "meet and greet" between Branch 50 and Branch 142. The food was AMAZING and could have fed a village. Thank you all for chipping in and bringing your best to share with others.

We were able to have our normal Branch 50 monthly meeting which gave a serious note to our meeting. Branch 142's playful skit about the origin and meaning of Mnohaya Lita was informative and amusing and gave the meeting its high note. The final beautiful rendition of Mnohaya Lita by Dzerela finished off the whole event with a joyful ending. The real finale was a beautiful gift cake from Branch 142 which was exquisitely designed and presented and tasted just as good.

Thank you to Branch 142 for the many gifts you gave us: keychains with a handmade Ukrainian design, delicious food, your fun presentation, and that unbelievable cake, and what we hope will be the start of a beautiful friendship.

In friendship,
Oksana Malanchuk

Amid the devastation of war, Ukrainian poetry has not fallen silent. On the contrary, it continues to speak with clarity, courage, and urgency.

Bravo Irena Portenko you will always be part of our Ann Arbor Ukrainian community.

There is a tendency to romanticize the beginning of an artist’s journey. We imagine a child falling in love with an instrument, discovering an irresistible passion, and pursuing it with unwavering certainty. It is a beautiful narrative, but reality is often more complicated. Some musicians choose ...
